I was underwhelmed with "Saturday Night Fever", when I saw it a few years ago. But "Taxi Driver" is a true Scorsese classic. It gets better with each viewing.
This weekend i rewatched those movies
I first saw SNF about 15 years ago & also felt a bit underwhelmed by it. But it was likely because the movie was dated & i regretted not having watched it at around the time it came out. I likely would have found it sensational had i seen it then. I absolutely loved the soundtrack & the dancing sequences which i still watch on YouTube occasionally. When i was growing up i just missed the disco era & i have always said that if i could go back in time i’d like to experience the height of the disco era.I was underwhelmed with "Saturday Night Fever", when I saw it a few years ago. I agree. The Travolta character is one of society’s losers but inside a discotheque he’s king of the world! He’s like one of those great rock lead singer who can mesmerize & take over an audience! He’s like Freddie Mercury, Roger Daltrey, Bono or Mick Jagger when he’s on the dance floor! Back when i first watched it 15 years ago i compared his character to legendary porn stars like John Holmes, Rocco Siffredi & Tom Byron in that before they became famous in porn they were pretty much losers & nobodies in their personal lives but similar to Tony Manero & dancing they were kings of fucking! Manero’s profiency at dancing was how they depend on their penis & what they can do with it!But the disco is all the Travolta character has, and provides his life with meaning, identity, transcendence, etc. Gotta be better than his job in a paint store, right!
Just finished watching it. It was OK. I felt like it was lacking in character development. I wasn't given much reason to care or not care about anyone. Deaths didn't have enough emotional impact. The action sequences were fine, but nothing that really stood out. The music is great. And Sinners. Maybe the best mainstream movie this year.

I heard that this movie was a sequel to Barbarian but it's just a follow up film by the Director of Barbarian. This movie has nothing to do with Barbarian, which is a creepy gem of a horror film.Thought it was good though perhaps a little overhyped. Not really scary but does have a few jump scares and I liked how the different perspectives pulled the story together. And that Naruto running...

I thought Barbarian was excellent, probably scarier than Weapons which was a little more on the humorous side. Terrific follow up to that film though.I heard that this movie was a sequel to Barbarian but it's just a follow up film by the Director of Barbarian. Barbarian is a bit of a devisive movie, though would agree it does become a monster movie at the end. Probably would avoid Weapons if not liked.Barbarian was a snoooze fest.
If the original "intrigue" was cool. Like her getting to the house, Skarsgaard already there etc... The mystery, Yes super ...super slow pace...but cool... Once the movie actually "drop its load" it becomes just another monster movie that make no sense.
I really didn't liked it. If "good idea, terrible execution" was to be applied to a movie, well that movie makes top 10 for sure.
Barbarian was awesome- the premiere "haunted AirBnB" movie (there is actually another one with Jeremy Allen White called The Rental which is also very good). I recently warned a buddy of mine who went on vacation and rented an AirBnb not to watch the movie before his trip. I have stayed in a number of AirBnBs in Montreal but none of them were haunted like that one.I thought Barbarian was excellent, probably scarier than Weapons which was a little more on the humorous side. Yea, makes you think twice about AirBnb's and what lurks...Barbarian was awesome- the premiere "haunted AirBnB" movie (there is actually another one with Jeremy Allen White called The Rental which is also very good).
