One old, one new:

Just rewatched 12 Angry Men. So flipping good.

And Sinners. Maybe the best mainstream movie this year.

Seeing it again a few years really surprised me. It's not some Hollywood fantasy. The thing that really stands out today about Saturday Night Fever is its fairly gritty, working-class aesthetic and raw depiction of Brooklyn life in the 1970s. And to that extent it has a lot more in common with Taxi Driver than an unsuspecting viewer only familiar with the soundtrack might expect. I mean, there's crumbling infrastructure everywhere, economic stagnation, and dead-end jobs, contrasting with the disco’s escapist glamour [which itself is small and not exactly that glamorous]. But the disco is all the Travolta character has, and provides his life with meaning, identity, transcendence, etc. Gotta be better than his job in a paint store, right!

I agree. The Travolta character is one of society’s losers but inside a discotheque he’s king of the world! He’s like one of those great rock lead singer who can mesmerize & take over an audience! He’s like Freddie Mercury, Roger Daltrey, Bono or Mick Jagger when he’s on the dance floor! Back when i first watched it 15 years ago i compared his character to legendary porn stars like John Holmes, Rocco Siffredi & Tom Byron in that before they became famous in porn they were pretty much losers & nobodies in their personal lives but similar to Tony Manero & dancing they were kings of fucking! Manero’s profiency at dancing was how they depend on their penis & what they can do with it!

Clown in a Cornfield (2025)
Recent slasher that i hadn’t really planned on watching and that i’m so glad i did! I really loved that movie and found it entertaining as hell! I’d describe it as an horror/mystery/comedy thriller which doesn’t fail in the gore department & the unexpected humorous moments! This is one of the best movies of its genre that i’ve seen in recent time & it was filmed in Canada with mostly Canadian actors. I dont want to spoil it for you so i won’t say more. I’m about to go watch it again! Lol

Thanks for the review on Clown in a Cornfield, was curious on this one. Ill add it to my list. I enjoy slashers the most in horror. I do have multiple other movies on my watchlist tough like The Substance wich i still have not seen, and Sinners i keep hearing good review but i wonder if it will be "for me". Ill watch it down the road for sure.

I finally watched Rambo 3 last night. Yes for the first time (lol). No idea why it took me so long as its right up my alley. It was fun but the irony of Afghanistan and the war is not lost on me. Otherwise yeah it has all the explosions and sound effects of the late 80s, so in itself it may even feel a bit nostalgia. Taking it into context (in 88), its really just a big dumb action movie more than anything else. Its just putting yourself almost 40 years later in the "futur" and knowing about this country that kinda give it more depth.
