You just put your finger on something that bothers me in my personal life... Some people just "listen" but it's not enough, if you are just going to listen passively in a dissociated manner it's best to just say you'd rather talk about something else
These are YOUR expectations you have for the person in front of you.
They might have another perspective on the situation.
Better be clear and say what you need when you want to talk : only an ear, their opinion, or advices.
Also, it's good to be mindful that the person you are talking to might not be able to offer you what you want.

Exactly! I think people should be able to express their boundaries. If I don't want to hear about something, I tell the person "sorry, this isn't something I'm comfortable talking about" or "I'm not really in a place where I can give any advice or feedback right now"..
I also think it's important to ask before sharing certain things.. and to let the person know what we want from them. I'm thinking about a specific situation with a friend who vents to me a lot and said I can do the same.. I realized I offered a lot of constructive criticism and feedback to this person, which was welcomed, but they just passively listened when I shared.
I also think sometimes a therapist or another type of professional is better to talk to about certain things than a friend... Depending on the subject. I know I'm a good listener and I'm ok with hearing certain things but not everyone is and it's a matter of respecting each other's boundaries and energy levels. Sometimes people don't have the capacity to discuss certain things.
Honestly that's also what I feel like it's partly what I'm here for as a SP. I enjoy being a confidante. (It's important to note that not all providers are comfortable with this and that doesn't mean their service is not as good)
