Update on Jeremy Swayman free agency:
Restricted free agent goalie Jeremy Swayman, currently in a contentious contract standoff with Boston, said he would do "everything in my power to be a Bruin for a long time" on the NHL's new Amazon Prime Video docuseries.

This has become a very bizarre saga. On one side Boston has been getting away with underpaying its stars for years by getting them to agree to team-friendly contracts & probably figured they could get away with it once again but Swayman seems to have caught them by surprise by sticking to his guns & putting himself first. The Bruins have since been openly leaking details of their negotiations out of frustration which has severely disappointed & upset the Swayman camp. The Bruins have likely made things worse by doing this since it’s a breach of trust. Neely coming out & hinting they offered $64 million x 8 years to Swayman has been perceived as as a low-blow & Swayman’s agent has flat-out denied that there was any truth to this claim & sees this has nothing but an attempt from the Bruins to make Swayman look as the bad guy in order to get the media & the fan base against him. Yes if the reported contract offer is true it’s a very good offer & many would say it’d be a no-brainer for them.
But Swayman has his own reasons. Maybe he doesn’t want an 8-year contract. Maybe like other players (e.g. Auston Mathews) he’d prefer signing a smaller contract with less term in order to re-assess his situation in 3-5 years. And with the salary cap expected to rise every year there is a good chance that his value in 5 years or so would likely be higher than $8 million if he continues to perform as he has & continues to improve. Or maybe he’d agree to sign for 8 years but at a minimum $10 million. Don’t laugh. Take a look at the contracts Carey Price & Sergei Bobrovski signed a few years ago & Swayman’s demands may not look as ridiculous as they look initially. The disagreement could also involve other contractual issues like a non-movement clause. Maybe the Bruins are firm in not offering one if they’re willing to sign him for maximum term. Who knows?
I’m also certain that every time there’s a new rumour coming out such as a possible trade to Ottawa the Swayman camp probably suspects the Bruins are behind such a rumour in order to intimidate him into agreeing to their contractual demands. By the way the Sens would more than likely jump at the chance to acquire Swayman & would likely agree to his contractual demands since they’re the Senators after all & like to overpay goalies. Swayman on the other hand has been open about his love playing for the Bruins & probably wouldn’t be overly thrilled to play in Kanata compared to playing & living in the Boston area. He likely would much prefer staying in Boston & be happy playing for a team he doesn’t feel has been shortchanging him & taking advantage of him. So you know who should contact the Bruins & try to acquire him? The Montreal Canadiens. Offer them Jacob Fowler & a 2nd round draft pick & they could possibly end up with Carey Price’s heir apparent.
