. Oetinger was simply great & his usual brick wall in the playoffs.
As I said earlier, Jake has taken this series as a personal challenge to show USA Hockey that he and not Hellebuyck should be the #1 national team goalie. He was raised as the #1 goalie as Jake was #1 in his age group ahead of Joseph Woll and Jeremy Swayman back in their USA World Junior days. Hellebuyck is 3 years older than these guys, and Jake feels it's his turn now as he enters his goalie prime years. I think a strong statement has been made in these playoffs that for Team USA Jake is #1, Woll is #2 and Hellebuyck is #3 on the depth chart, going forward. Swayman isn't making the team. Jake is DA MAN!!!!!!!!

Seems TOCCHET will sign with the FLYERS....5 years/25M....good fit.....un changement qui va faire du bien à cette équipe qui a besoin d'un nouveau leadership....bonne décision.

Florida’s answer to Domi is brutal, 5-0 with 11:00 minutes left!!!
Hugely disappointing performance by Toronto, getting shellacked and shut out like this at home. They really looked like they had one of their better teams coming in but it just hasn't translated. The Panthers are going to win 4 straight against them. I am sensing a lack of guts and pride from the men in blue.

It’s fait accompli. And Adam Foote has signed to coach the Canucks. By the way yesterday i heard that Andre Tourigny’s job may be in jeopardy in Utah since there are rumors floating around that Jon Cooper may leave Tampa to take over the hockey operations in Utah & of true he more than likely would want to hire his own coach. This led to a rumor that Pascal Vincent could very likely take over the vacant coaching job in Tampa were Cooper to leave. Word is that Vincent has already been approached by several teams who informed him that they were considering him as a coaching candidate. That’s when i learned that Boston could potentially be one of these teams. Until now i was under the impression that Joe Sacco was there man. Did i miss something?

I am really stunned that Stu Skinner has posted back to back shutouts and that Edmonton beat Vegas in 5. Dallas-Edmonton should be a great finals!!!!!
Skinner was the same way last season. An extremely hot & cold goalie. When he’s on he’s a brick wall. When he’s off he’s a sieve. He has all tools to be a great goalie one day. Especially size. Last week i was watching a Mtl hockey show & one of the panelists asked if it was time for Edmonton to part ways with him & start shopping for a new #1 goaltender next season. Another panelist told him this would be very foolish since Skinner is still a fairly young goaltender & we all know it often takes longer for goaltenders to reach their full potential. I agree. He’s definitely a keeper. Just look at Freddie Anderson in Carolina who’s been playing great. I know there’ll be people who’ll say Toronto gave up on him too quickly (and i was one of them) but to be honest he was always hurt with strange ailments during his seasons in Toronto & there must have been a good reason why the Ducks also gave up on him earlier on at such a young age. I still remember a time when habs fans wanted to chase Carey Price out of town in favor of Jaroslav Halak! Patience is a virtue & those who are patient will often get rewarded!

The Oilers peeked at exactly the right time & once you gain momentum it’s hard to stop them! Vegas played well enough to win last night but when you have the two best players in the world playing on the other team it’s a very tough task especially when the Oilers are oozing confidence! As for the Leafs they peaked too early but game 3 was a game they could have & should have won & that totally changed the series’ momentum. Once they won game 3 in desperate fashion it totally changed the Panthers’ mindset & it seems the Leafs lost their confidence & mojo when Stolarz went down. Renaud Lavoie is correct when he says the series would already be over if Stolarz didn’t get injured. The Leafs do play differently when he’s between the pipes. He’s way much better at handling the pick than Woll & he oozes confidence which inspires the rest of the team! That series was throughly a see-saw battle but unfortunately for the Leafs they faced a team that has been there in the past, knows how to win & has won. They probably faced the toughest team to play against in the playoffs. A team that shocked everyone by eliminating Tampa in just 5 games when many had picked Tampa to get to the finals even ahead of the Leafs! Heck Florida made the great Vasilevski look like a junior B goalie!

I seriously doubt this affirmation. Panthers is a much more balanced team with an almost infallible system that they are able to play to near perfection, when they keep their focus. They won the cup at their 2 nd time in a row reaching the final. There is a reason for that.

Washington out! Where was Ovechkin in that series? 1 goal and 0 assist in 5 games, we might hear that he was injured after the Montreal series.
Prior to the start of the playoffs i told a buddy of mine that of all the playoffs teams out there that the team the Habs had the best chance of upsetting were the Washington Capitals. He called me crazy, that the Habs were too small for them, the Caps were too big, they had a great goalie, they had Tom Wilson, they had P-L Dubois, they had Ovie & won the East!

I replied that i was still picking the Caps to win but they were still the team that i felt the Habs could upset. I predicted Caps in 6. He said i was nuts & the Caps would easily sweep them! I told him that i considered the Caps to be somewhat of a fraud. Every player seemed to have had near-career seasons that would likely never be repeated. That the season they had was a fluke! I told him Ovie looked done at time due to his age. He barely moved anymore. But he could still shoot. Dylan Strome had a career season playing next to him. P-L Dubois was finally playing to expectations after been a bust everywhere he had previously played. He only showed up to play when put in a supporting role. Tom Wilson had a surprisingly good season but he was getting old & the type of game he plays is hard on an aging body especially in the playoffs. Sure Logan Thompson had a good season however he was an unproven goalie plus i considered Montembault to be as good if not better & Monty was picked to play for Team Canada while Thompson stayed home. I found the defence rather ordinary & unproven. I felt it was their weakest spot. As for Spencer Carbery he’s my choice to win the Jack Adams however he has no coaching experience in the playoffs. After the Caps eliminated the Habs i told my buddy that it wouldn’t surprise me if they lost to Carolina in 4 games! He said i was nuts & the series would go 6 or 7 games. I replied that they were lucky to neat Montreal! The Caps won in games! he replied. I reminded him that other than the last game every game the habs lost had been close games & two of Mtl’s losses were OT losses. Plus the habs were on the wrong end of extremely bad non-calls by the officials & this may have turned that series.

Three days ago he called me & told me i was correct about the Caps. They were frauds! I reminded him that they weren’t a bad team & belonged in the playoffs however Carolina was a well-balanced team made for the playoffs coached by one of the league’s best! My prediction that they could sweep the Caps was off by a game.

Carolina finished both their rounds in 5 games. They have time to rest and heal, although they dont seem to have badly injured players. Their game is sharp and they stick to Brindamour’s style. They are a very serious contender for the final. A series against the Cats will be very interesting.

Leafs are playing a much better game tonight but so does the Panthers. 0-0 after 2 periods, I have a feeling that this will end up in overtime and a not so happy ending for Toronto.
