The NFL training camps have begun & the regular season begins is less than a month-and-a-half away. Yesterday i started watching a new series on Netflix called “Receivers”. It’s a documentary on some of the NFL’s top receivers like Justin Jefferson, Am-Ra St-Brown, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel & Devante Adams. The reviews have been very good & the first two episodes i’ve watched were great! I haven’t seen “Quarterbacks” yet but plan to watch it as soon as i finish watching this one.

A team to really keep an eye on because of their offseason moves is the Houston Texans. This is going to be a very dangerous team this year.
I agree. Another team i really want to keep my eye on this year are the Detroit Lions. They should have been in the Superbowl last season had they not shot themselves in the foot repeatedly in the NFC championship game. I’m extremely curious to see how they’ll rebound. Will they learn from their mistakes & continue progressing? Or will their loss against the Niners permanently demoralize them & cause them to having just an average season? My guess is that they’ll be back contending however it’ll depend on whether or not QB Jared Goff stays healthy. He was a big reason for their success last season.

Another team i think who could surprise a lot of people are the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now that they have two very good QB’s i really believe that their offence will lead them into the playoffs this season. They still have a very solid defence led by the great TJ Watt & one of the top head coaches in football in Mike Tomlin so i expect them to be among one of the top 8 teams in the AFC this season.

..and what about the CHIEFS and the BILLS???
The Bills will be significantly weaker.....lost a lot of guys most notably Diggs to the Texans. The Chiefs have a problem with Rashee Rice who may be suspended. They won last year with very substandard WR production and it can't be worse, but I also doubt their defense will be as good as it was last year. The Cleveland Browns will have one of the better defenses in the NFL.

The Ravens, Texans, Browns, Bengals, Dolphins and Jets will all fight with the Chiefs, and the Chargers might be good too. I am not as sold as Doc on the Steelers. I think we will need to wait and see how Wilson or Fields fit in that system. Fields might ultimately be the starter, we will need to see what happens.

..and what about the CHIEFS and the BILLS???
The Chiefs will once again be the team to beat in the AFC but i wonder how much Travis Kelce has left in the tank? He’s still a key component to this offence. Will Taylor Swift be a distraction this season? Or will it be controversial kicker Harrison Butker? If the Chiefs struggle to return to the playoffs it might be due to key injuries or off the field distractions .

As for the Bills i think they may actually be better than they were last season. They lost Stephon Diggs but he was a big disappointment last season & had become a huge distraction around the team. Management got fed up with his antics over the past two seasons, bit the bullet & practically gave him away in a trade with the Texans. But they added two key wide receivers in Curtis Samuel & rookie Keon Coleman. They also added WR Marquez Valdez-Scantling & Chase Claypool for more depth & even with Diggs’ loss the wide receiver position was upgraded during the offseason. They’ve also added some depth in the RB position with Frank Gore Jr & promising rookie Ray Davis. The team also brought back Josh Allen’s buddy Mitch Trubisky to act as his backup which will keep him happy. Tight end Dalton Kinkaid will now have a year of experience & Dawson Knox will have things to prove having lost his #1 tight end job to Kinkaid.

As for the NY Jets i’m not as optimistic about their chances as EB is. Aaron Rodgers missed the entire season due to a serious injury & for a guy his age missing an entire season is tough to make up. While i really like their defence i’m not sold on their offence. There are also question marks about the head coach & will he last the season if the team struggles early on?

Like last season. A middle-of-the-pack team which will likely miss the playoffs. I’m probably wrong but it’s hard to find anything good to say about them.

The Chiefs should have better opponents in their own division this year from the Raiders and Chargers but if 15 is healthy, not a lot of teams can beat them…

I’m a fan of the Black & Gold and I believe their best weapon on offense this year is their new OC. It should not be too difficult to score more points than the previous year! However, they are playing in a tough division especially with Burrow coming back healthy in Cincinnati. This is going to be a lot of fun this year…across the league. Can’t wait for the season to start even though it means that summer is almost over…

Who’s their QB? David Carr? He’s ok i suppose but really just a very average QB. He once had promise but even the Raiders gave up on him when he was one of the main reasons why Devante Adams joined them. And he has already played for several teams. The biggest weapon is still RB Alvin Kamara. But to be honest i couldn’t name you any other player they have. It’s one of the rare teams i have not much interest in & i don’t know much about. I don’t even know who their head coach is. Do they still play their games at the old Superdome? I hope not. But if so they really need to build a new stadium. Anyways for your sake & their other fans i wish them well. But watching them will likely be a grind. By the way…i believe that you’re the only Saints fan that i know. I understand being a fan when Drew Brees was still playing & they were contending every year he was there. But now? David Carr is not the answer to bringing back a winning team.

I haven’t been following them much this offseason. Is Antonio Pierce still their head coach? If so that’s great. Who’s their QB? That’ll be the key. But they lost Jacobs to free agency I believe. That’ll hurt. They still have a good defence & of course the great Devante Adams. Should be an interesting year.

If it’s the Raiders that we saw in the second half last season then they could make things interesting. And the Chargers will be a team to watch under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. These two teams could make things harder for the Chiefs. However Par Mahomes is still Pat Mahomes & always finds a way to come up with a win. However his wife is pregnant & that could eventually be a distraction for him later in the season.

Gaby-

Let's just say you will have much better luck rooting for the Lions than the Saints. Carr is an average NFL QB who needs to be surrounded with elite NFL talent to excel. He is not surrounded by elite talent, and he is not the kind of guy who will elevate an otherwise mediocre team.

The Lions do have one flaw, which is that it's an open secret in the NFL that Jared Goff is not very good when he is pressured. This is why the Rams traded him for the older Matthew Stafford. Goff is the kind of QB who, if protected, can give you all pro stats, but if not protected, is prone to making mistakes and TOs. The Lions OL was very, very good last year, and that will obviously need to continue.. However, if you can expose that flaw, the Lions will be beaten. Goff is a pretty boy from Southern California, and is not the toughest QB in the league by a long stretch.

Harbaugh Showers Lamar Jackson With Praise:
"The vision that we have together is that Lamar Jackson is going to become and be known and be recognized as the greatest quarterback ever to play in the history of the National Football League," Harbaugh said. "It's going to happen by Lamar, his work ethic and his brilliant talent, by all of us pouring into that effort together as a team and by the grace of God and God's goodwill."

I think Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes will very likely go into the Hall of Fame together, but Lamar does have some work to do to eclipse Patrick. He is definitely a better all around QB than Patrick is; but Patrick is to date the better big game player, and the more creative passer.
