A toxic, dangerous and humiliating ordeal. How to cope?

I'm not sure what I'm hoping for with this post but I need to get it off my chest and this is the only place I can talk about it.

I met this girl a couple years ago when I first got into this game. She has been posted about before on this forum but the posts were always taken down for some reason so I won't go into details.

Anyway she was a total train wreck drug addict and the first time I met her was not a good experience. But then the next day I was out at night walking on saint Catherine and I run into her. Initially I ignored her but she said she was sorry about the previous night, that she has unresolved trauma and that causes her to act out sometimes. She asked if I wanted to come over and said she would be good this time.

I felt kinda bad for her and she was being nice, She lived a block away so I figured it wouldn't be a big deal.

We get to her place and we ended up having a great time, we spent the whole night together talking and fucking. She was great and I felt like a million bucks for the whole week.

Not long after that she would start texting me asking if we could see eachother. 9/10 times we met it was her initiating contact. Saying she wanted to see me, that she needed me and all that.

Then I moved away from Montreal for about a year for work and didn't have much contact with her. When I moved back to MTL, We met up and initially it was great, She would barely ask me for anything (I would insist on paying her more than she asked because she was asking for so little) and we would even go and get food together after and hang out for hours.

Not long after that though the shit hit the fan. She tells me she can't show up tonight because her pimp/boyfriend doesn't want her to see me because she's spending too much time with me and getting too close with me and he saw me as a threat. She tells me she really wants to keep seeing me though but I have to help her hide it from her pimp.

I go over to her apartment and she's super Manic, sitting in the corner mumbling to herself. She says her pimp/boyfriend is waiting for her outside, she's locked herself in her apartment cause he was trying to break in. I was skeptical at first but then as I'm standing there, a piece of concrete comes smashing through the window narrowly missing me and sending glass everywhere. I look outside and it's her guy standing there yelling. She starts freaking out. I tell her to come with me and I would protect her and we sneak out the fire escape in the back. I take her to a hotel, paid a room for the night so she could stay there to be safe from her jealous bf/pimp.

A few days later she gets kicked out of her apartment ( subsidized housing) for putting the other residents in danger. Apparently the guy came by again and smashed the door down with a hammer. She's on the street now, no place to stay she tells me it's cold and she's hungry and asks if I could bring her a jacket and get food with her. How can I say no to her?

I bring her food and warm clothes and offer to pay her a few nights in a hostel so she has somewhere to sleep.

Now, by this point I had been through a lot of shit with her, came to help her out of dangerous situations, stuck my neck out for her, came to her rescue many times and almost got into physical altercations because of her. She would tell me how much she appreciated me. Made me feel needed and desired. Around this time I think I started developing some feelings for her despite knowing it was an absolutely terrible idea. Some kind of fucked up trauma bonding.

I knew it was a bad idea to get too attached to her. But she would keep texting me saying she wanted to see me, sometimes even when I said I had no money for her. I started thinking she had some feelings for me too. In hindsight I was stupid.

We go on seeing eachother on and off for another year or so and there was lots of drama, but it came to a peak this past weekend.

She has me pick her up, we go somewhere and do our business and I bring her back to where she was staying. She asks me to wait with her untill she is let inside the building because she is afraid that one of her regular clients who is very jealous and violent was driving around looking for her. I agree to wait with her.

Suddenly, a big black pickup truck rolls up and stops in the road just past me, blocking the road in front of me. She says OMG that's him.

He's blocking the road and it's a one-way so I turn the car around and head the wrong way down the one way street, he chases us like a maniac in reverse all the way down the street.

I take a few quick turns trying to lose him but he turns around and starts chasing us following an inch behind in his huge truck blasting his High beams.

I turn to go down Ontario street, he's still chasing me an inch behind me, I speed up, try to lose him, I gun it and blow straight through two red lights and two stop signs trying to get away but he chases me straight through them.

I pull into a busy gas station and he follows me in. I start driving around the pumps and he's chasing me around and around the gas station in circles. It was like something from a movie I swear. Then a police car pulls into the gas station and suddenly he's gone.

She tells me that this dude is obsessed with her and jealous and violent. She said she didn't know he would show up there she swears she didn't call him earlier, that he just randomly showed up and was waiting for her and he was crazy. I go and drop her off at another friends place where she would be safe.

Then I get a text from a number I don't recognize. It's the dude who was chasing us. He tells me he's got no beef with me but the girl had called him and asked him to pick her up. He sends me screenshots of his call logs. Everything checks out, there are several incoming calls from her to his number earlier in the evening. And also text messages.

He tells me also that she sees him a few times a week and has a similar arrangement as me with her, and she's always telling him stuff about me, saying she's just using me and that she thinks I'm some soft-ass lover boy because I'm nice to her. He also shows me screenshots of text convos with her. He knew a bunch of personal stuff about me that I had told her, never thinking she would go and tell other people. He says that she also does all the same kind of terrible shit to him.

He wasn't driving around looking for her, she CALLED HIM THERE and he was understandably pissed waiting around for her for hours only to have her run away from him as soon as she came back.

Not only did she lie to me, but she put me and him in an extremely dangerous situation. It could have easily gone very very wrong.

On top of that this whole time I was being good to her, she was talking shit about me behind my back to him, telling him she was just playing me, using me for resources. The same thing she would tell me that she was doing with other guys but would " never" do to me.

The level of betrayal and humiliation I felt is hard to describe. I have never, as an adult felt like such a miserable pile of dogshit. The level of backstabbing and betrayal from someone who I showed nothing but kindness and support to do this to me. I felt like a fool for ever caring about her. It felt like I made a mistake for being a good person.

It literally made me feel sick. Years of waste and all that drama, hundreds of hours for it to come to this? I deleted her number. She tried to contact me but I told her to fuck off.

Honestly, I don't ever want to see her face again. I can't think of any way that I could forgive this kind of betrayal.

But I still feel miserable about the whole situation. I feel like absolute dogshit. I don't know if anyone here has had similar experiences? And how did you cope with it?

Waiting for resident Indy Companions to chime in on this one lol.

You spent YEARS dealing with this. Wow.

Well at least you didn’t catch some STD, your personal info like your bank accounts were compromised and no bodily harm came to you. Right? I hope.

Having a good heart can put you in some fucked up situations!

Was the Ste Catherine bit east of St Laurent?

Not in all cases but in some, don’t trust anything that bleeds for seven days but doesn’t die

Wow. I never heard of such a crazy story!

You should have stopped this at the first red flag: “Anyway she was a total train wreck drug addict and the first time I met her was not a good experience.”
Should have been end of story!!

Sorry to pile it on, but there were about 10 red flags in your story!!

Sometimes us guys think with our small head instead of our big head, and we’ve all been guilty of that!
But nothing this extreme; obviously you put yourself at risk, dealt with this for so long, and she took advantage of your kindness.
Wow, I can’t imagine how you feel.

I hope the best for you and that you can somehow you can get over it!

No only mental harm haha. Many times over these past couple of years I told myself I should walk away. Each time she came to me apologizing telling me things would be different from now on and how much she needs me, and I kept getting pulled back in. I kept trying to rationalize her shitty behavior, telling myself she's a victim of her extremely traumatic past, but this time was the last straw. There's no way to justify what she did to me.

Oddly enough your comment was followed by an ad for sugardaddies with the quote "raise your standards."

Like you, not piling on OP by any means, but this situation is red flags galore

A valuable cautionary tale for any of us to internalize. We can appreciate the companionship and intimacy but this is not a healthy environment to be catching feelings.

You're absolutely right I should have listened to my instincts. I knew it wouldn't end well. I should have walked away, but I let my feelings get in the way.

Sometimes I enjoyed the drama because of the adrenaline rush. Sneaking her out the back door to escape her crazy ex pimp and later the high speed car chase, they were scary and dangerous situations but I am ashamed to admit I liked the adrenaline rush. Made my life feel exiting. I was chasing the high.

If by similar you mean a relationship that involved a car chase through a gas station the answer would be no... Joking aside, toxic relationships with sex workers are probably not as rare as you may think because the conditions are always there for it to happen (i.e. anpower imbalance due to the provision of money). We have had many discussions around this topic on this board over the years.
And how did you cope with it?
Read self-help books/listen to videos by mental health professionals on toxic relationships. Focus on hobbies, friendships, community service. The old cliché "time heals all wounds" is mostly true... We just need to define "time" properly .. For a relationship that lasted 2 years I would estimate it would take 4-12 months. There is a lot of variability. You are already displaying a level of self-awareness well above the average client. Good luck!

Thanks I appreciate it. One of my main worries is that she will try to come back apologizing and sweet talking me and I'm afraid I'll give in and get pulled right back into this train wreck cycle.

It’s on you if you get pulled back into that mess no more excuses

If you came out of the ordeal without any long-term health issues or damage to your bank account, your employment, or your personal/social world, consider yourself lucky. Turn your back on it and walk away. Frank Zappa once quipped that broken hearts are for assholes. I'm sorry that you (OP) feel so low, but indeed you were stupid (your word). It sounds like you got away with some very high-risk behavior without ruining your life. Move on, and fast.

I'm sure I'll get slammed for saying this but I simply don't understand why this board has become a lonely hearts club. I'm sure there are reasons, and I'm genuinely sorry that so many people feel alone and in need of connection. Honestly, though, this "hobby" is best enjoyed as a fleeting pleasure. There must be better ways to find relationships and romance. Montreal has many wonderful escorts; let's keep the focus on FUN.

I'm sorry if I sound unsympathetic. Good luck, OP.
