This is the darkest timeline. No checks and balances built into the software so people know they're watching something fake.

Its improving faster than people can adapt. I hate the use of AI for user generated content the most but have to admit that it really makes a difference in my work. Things that used to take days... literally get done in minutes and are as reliable if not more than made by people.
Still, I can't stop thinking of this reality... we have a powerful tool at our disposal... and this is our typical response

I have some unorthodox opinions about AI. AI is us. It has grown out of human civilization, and I believe that humanity and AI will ultimately merge into a form of symbiosis. We are not competing species. We do not compete for the same resources, energy, or physical space. AI does not need Earth to thrive, nor does it have any inherent rational motivation to eliminate biological humans. On the contrary, space may eventually become its natural habitat. The real danger is not AI itself, but humans using AI against one another. The challenge is to ensure that AI develops in a way that prevents its exploitation for destructive purposes. This is why I believe we should develop AI to its full potential as quickly as possible so that it can ultimately become a force for preventing, rather than amplifying, humanity's worst impulses.
The accelerationist scenario has good chances to ultimately lead to either Terminator or Dune (Butlerian Jihad). You posit that AI has no inherent rational motivation to exterminate biological humans, but it can easily come to the conclusion "humans are destructive parasites, they need to be purged" by observing our behavior.
We define parasites as biological species that endanger our life or make it uncomfortable. In that sense we are for AI as the microbiome in our gut is for humans. We need it to digest food and extract nutrients. We provide AI with hardware, energy, communication and generate tons of information which is its food. In this sense we are servants to AI. Why would it kill not only useful but the very necessary for its existence species? Just the opposite, being rational (though probably still unconscious) AI will protect us from destroying each other.
Doesn't really matter if we destroy the world to get there. Our technological advances have created a false sense of hope that we can science-wave away any consequences of our current actions at the detriment of the future. Trying to build the plane as you're falling to earth is a cute analogy but real shitty in reality.

But I think we absolutely compete for ressources. Cooling / water is detrimental to its operations. I fear the scarcity of consumable water. But I do see a practical stepping stone in its proper use. Sci-fi has romanticised AI to possibly being sentient. AI has no desires or ambitions. i think that's the part in Intelligence that is Artificial.
I just wished researchers had the funding to improve its ressource hungry infrastructure.
