Albertas healthcare system is so bad, they can fit right into the United States
You mean Canada's. Wait times are so long that people die waiting or opt for MAID instead of treatment.

Honestly, I'd rather pay for health insurance in the US and be seen by a doctor than pay 80-85k in taxes, wait 13 hours in the emergency waiting room, or months for a CT or MRI.

Right on! Fuck with those wait times you can't schedule anything else the same day you go to a doctor. It would put me out of business. Time is money and if you have a system that doesn't respect the patient, his time, or his money, then it's very bad.

Health care in Canada sucks as far as wait times for hospital, surgery and tests, but you always have the option of paying for a private doctor and I can get an MRI or CT scan ( private clinic) the same day if I want, it is just a matter of $$$. not much different than in the US if you count the huge insurance costs.
Luckily I have a family doctor who lists a few emergency appointment availabilities each week so I can basically see her usually within 2 days sometimes same day, regular appointments I can schedule 1-2 weeks and this can be done online.

Yeah the private option is always available. I'm lucky enough that I could afford it and my health insurance through work paid 80% of the CT scan I needed not too long ago. I managed to get a scan at a private clinic within a few days. Soon after, I got an MRI in the public system fairly quickly, but only because of connections. A friend knew the right person to get me in quickly.

A few months later, the surgeon requested another MRI and when I went to register, the receptionist mentioned I was in the system for a CT scan. The request was entered months prior. It was the original one my family doctor had entered into the public system.

All this to say that the public system is a joke. We pay thousands into it via taxes. We should not have to pay AGAIN so we can cut in front of the line. We should have the services available quickly. The feds are to blame for a lot of it since they opened the borders for everyone. All kinds of leaches have infected our country and they need to be gotten rid of. Hospitals and other public services can't keep up and are poorly managed to begin with.

As I mentioned my employer pays my insurance costs, however, the deductible ($4500) and non covered services like laser cataract surgery, or wisdom teeth removal surgery, are on me. After the deductible is met, most Doctors charge a $100 copay on my plan, per visit.

If Alberta becomes a 51st state, can they get a NFL & MLB team too?
The Calgary Roughriders and Edmonton Eskimoes could seek NFL admission but would need to upgrade their rosters, which if the NFL accepts them can be done via an expansion draft.

MLB would be tough because of spring and fall and a domed stadium would be essential.

You can get private insurance here also and visit private doctors and then the service is the same as in the US.
My children all have private doctors outside of the government health system. They don’t have wait times.
The health care however is great for medication. The maximum you can be charged for prescribed meds authorized by Quebec is $99 in any given month regardless of how much the medication actually costs.

Why pay thousands in taxes then? Get rid of the public system altogether.
We should all be revolting in the streets after paying THOUSANDS in taxes, of which a large portion goes to healthcare, and then need to pay for private healthcare because the public one is shit.

The $99 thing might be right, but now I'm questioning why I'm paying $164/month for my mother-in-law's meds and she's nearly 90 with a tiny income.

You may pay more in the beginning of the year for meds but once you have paid in the maximum of $99x12 then it drops to zero. It is a weird system that I have never quite understood how they calculate it.
Yeah you are absolutely correct that we pay a shit load of taxes and the health system is a giant shit show. The only good part is the relatively cheap meds.

Do you write about personal experience or from what you ses on the NET ?
In January 2024, I saw a generalist doctor for prescription renewal. I bad à physical exam with electrocardiogram and he gavé me prescriptions to lung X-Rays and a Cardiologist consultation in a less than two week span.
The Cardiologist didn't like what he saw on my electrocardiogram and bad me transport et by ambulance at thé close by Hospital in the Cardiac Urgency.
I stayed there 3 week for cardiology exams and waiting to a triple bypass heart surgery at a specialized Hospital.
So perhaps I have been lucky but I dont have to complain on the Canada health system. In USA, that could have cost me how much ? 100 000$ dollars ?

Both. When I had heart issues, service was quick, but they ignored everything I told them about why I had issues. They only relied on their tests which found nothing since it was emotional and not physical. They wasted months and tried to medicate me for nothing.

When it comes to other issues, they'll make you wait until your situation is dire. They will give you partial info and then tell you that you didn't follow procedure. It's delay tactic after delay tactic. Doctors are so busy and rushed that they often miss things or forget to give important information. You're stuck reading reports on Carnet Santé and trying to figure out what everything means so you can advocate for yourself. Call whatever number you can find and harass people until you can get the care you're entitled to.

The entire system is flawed and people working there are tired and have stopped caring.
