it's true Jalimon, but consider moving Amazon's thousands of employees to Montreal? all their children has to go French school? sale tax 15% on everything you buy? gas price jumping up and down and the highest top 5 in Canada? they will commit suicide !

I would lay huge money on it being in the US, the only Canadian city now is Toronto and with our " Not open for business " tax system I can not see it awarded here. I read an article this morning and Amazon said they are expecting huge breaks and some of the cities were offering the moon. With the new min wage in Ontario ( although it will not effect 99% of their employees ) high hydro rates, , business taxes and a carbon tax it will not happen.
Kind of sucks for Canada, even Calgary was in the running at the start.

Bear in mind that with the new reform tax bill signed by Trump recently, from now on all US citizens will have to pay double income taxes if they work overseas! Only 2 countries has this double tax system in the whole world, and one of them is USA ! so no chance it will be in TO.

Montreal has a huge talent pool of qualified professionals that would have helped Amazon greatly had they considered the city. However, the bottom line is always business. Montreal just happens to be situated in the highest taxed jurisdiction in all of North America. I believe that the high tax situation was the main reason that the city was removed from the list.

So although the city has a lot going for it (entertainment, nightlife, low crime, good public transit...), business always comes first...always.

Sorry... That is NOT true... see here: https://www.cchwebsites.com/content/pdf/quickcharts/ca/en/business/269rb.pdf

Before Trump's last tax cut for US corporates, that tax category was higher in the States...

Don't mix individual and corporate taxes... Amazon is a business. It pays taxes as a business...
The Trump tax cut does help stimulate the economy, however, having lived in the US for numerous years, I can tell you that many American companies/corporations don’t pay any income tax whatsoever. The government strategy is to allow them the cash flow to hire more employees, which results in more taxpayers.

That is for the citizens I think, not for corporations.
Quebecers are taxed very high when you add in all the side taxes.
