Just my opinion but this shit should not be happening. No charges laid when the left goes on one of their protests. If that was a anti Muslim protest the police would have been out in full force.

Did you read the article? It was not an anti Israel demonstration, it was an "attempt to shut down a university-sanctioned event, using violence and intimidation". The protesters physically attacked the event's attendees. They "glorified terrorism". How can you support that.

^^^^^^ Good point. My error as I was assuming the Israel / Jewish ties.. Still do it agree with the protesters that show up at these events to start violence. Freedom of speech is gone now.
The other post was written while I was writing this. Yes I read the article, my reason for posting this. Too many times at universities when a certain speaker or group has an allowed speech / protest the anti whatever group does not allow them to speak and many time violence starts. ANTIFA is a prime example.

Sorry for the edits, early and wrong words used

Good article. The protesters should have been the night-stick treatment. I am sick and tired of the left's war on free speech.

Isn't protesting someone free speech? Why is the university suppressing their right to protest?

Yes, I'm partially joking, but is there any evidence the protesters started the violence? The clips I have seen so far are mostly just normal protest stuff. Where is the violence against the speakers? The clips so far are just protesters and counter protesters fighting. I don't really approve of that but why are we assuming the protesters started fights?

I like how you don't like there was disruption, so protesters exercising free speech should be attacked by people with combat training.

Yup, protesters and counter protesters fought. If we applied your belief system, we would assume it was the IDF attacking the protesters, since you recommended it. But more likely a scuffle broke out as people got in each other's faces

So in fact no evidence of ethnic/racial/religious slurs? No evidence of violence to the speakers?

Healthy protest and then the speech went on anyway? What a shocking development.

Anti-Israel doesn't equal antisemitism, hell most pro-Israel i know are racist pricks who want every minority out including Jewish people.

^^^^^^^ Up 2. Guessing you are a fan of ANTAFA also with their protests. Just my opinion but if any group has a planned event let them have their time, keep away if it bothers you, you know if you start shouting will bull horns and start acting like little pricks trouble will start. STFU and stay at home. The anti-Israel group knew they would start trouble going there. I would say the same thing to any group that invades any other groups planned time just to stir shit up.
This may be a surprise to you but you are not allowing freedom of speech when you protest against someone during a planned event, you are the asshole when that happens.

What does ANTIFA have to do with this? Do you even know who they are?

Look, I happen to agree with you that heckler's veto protests aren't the best tactic. I am not fond of them myself. But people protest things, that's normal.

I'm not going to get upset about it until a few things happen.

1) Are they threatening the speakers? (In this case, it seems no.)
2) Are they throwing around offensive language? (In this case, the articles say they were chanting shit about ovens, which would 100% qualify, but none of the videos show that.)

If not, I'm not too worried about it. As Captain Renault showed in the other thread, this isn't really a big deal. Even this one didn't result in the speech stopping or anything, and the fights seemed to be outside and no one has copped to who started it. (Yes, I am all for punishing the people who were throwing punches.)

It's just very hard to take these right wing snowflakes seriously when they overreact to even the mildest criticism.

^^^^^^ How often do you see a right wing disrupting a planned speech event? What do you call speaking through a bull horn disrupting the other parties speech? Can they not just STFU, let them have their say and do their yapping after the other party is done. With ANTAFA and thos anti Israel group, both go out to stir shit up, both knew in advance they wanted to cause trouble.
Like how you use the left snowflake term for the right, funny. The anti Israel were actually the flakes for not allowing the Israels to talk. Just like the rest of them, I do not like/agree with it so no one else should be able to listen or see it.

I'm neither right wing nor left wing but it seems that once someone starts identifying himself as either of those he starts to lose the ability to make honest impartial decisions and tends to support "his" side right or wrong. Just look at the Republicans closing their eyes, ears and minds to the huge mass of evidence against Trump.

Also as someone neither right nor left it seems that it's more often those on the right who start the name-calling in debates, so yes there certainly are right wing snowflakes. I'm not pimping for the left here because I'm sure as hell no fan of Justin Trudeau.

Quite often. People do protests all the time. They just shut down Don Trump Jr a few weeks ago. That was a right wing group. And as Captain Renault showed in that list he posted in that other thread, there are about a third of the campus disinvitations from the right.

Exactly. I think the term is silly, but that wining about no one should say anything I don't like is basically the entire right wing existence these days.

I am against any person or group that disrupts a planned event.
Let's just pretend that I had a planned event and was giving a pro speech about raising shrimp, then all the sudden you showed up with a bull horn yelling so I could not continue. You would probably be eating the bull horn.
Oh... please show some links to your claims above.

^^^^^ The group was not against Trump but the host, still wrong.
Read the link, used to be 50/50 now the left is pulling away.
I stand corrected.
For you violence to free speech comment. Did you parents ever teach you not to speak while someone is talking, very rude.
When blasting your message through a bull horn while someone is giving their planned opinion deserves a headbutt across the nose.
You have the right to speak after the other person finishes, until then STFU. Do not care if you are left or right, let someone speak and then let others listen to your rant.
Ignorant fucks that can not understand something as simple as that.

Nitpicking but fine. A right wing group shouted down the event because they were against the host. Like I said, it happens.

Not sure where you are getting your 50/50 from. You can look at the numbers yourself for the disinvites. There was a spike in the mid 2010s of left based disinivitations. These seem grouped around Coulter and Milo. It has dropped down since then.

The overall numbers seem to cluster around 1/2 left, 1/4 right, 1/4 non applicable.
(It is interesting to note the right is far more effective and getting the whole event called off. I wonder if the increased visibility of on site protests from the left has to do with that.)

As for shouting down, I'm not a fan either. My first thought isn't to turn to violence, though.
