Stay away from Backpage. Not only are most of the adds/girls total bullshit, the LE in NY used it nab a bunch of "johns" in NY:

I think it varies. If you use it in less saturated areas it can be good. Use common sense because there is a lot of crap but with a keen eye it is obvious. There are some gems.
