Look behind you.
Do not smoke but pick up menthol cigarettes for my 91 yr old mom ( lives in a house alone, makes her own food and does yard work, yes healthy ). They were banned in Alberta about 8 months ago and now in Quebec also. Government says it is because kids like the flavor and say it is bad for your health.
Double standard for flavored alcohol, alcohol is good for you so this is not an issue? Carton of smokes in Quebec $75 for a good brand, Carton of smokes in Alberta $117.00, sin tax they call it.

That is why many left-wingers scare the shit out of me when they think that all commercial sex should occur in tightly regulated brothels, presumably with a police state to make sure that that no private transactions occur in hotels or apartments.

Right....much better to put in a right wing moralistic dumbass legislation like C36 and make everyone involved a criminal:noidea:

Neither is the right answer. Leave people alone and let them smoke, drink and fuck.

I don't like right-wingers who want to ban it with legislation.

But neither do I care for the many left-wingers who want to make a million rules for how to do it (while taking all of the fun out of it) and having the participants pay them a big fee for having the privilege of doing it at all.

Why the hell should smokers pay huge taxes to smoke? Hell, most causes of death from smoking kills person relatively quickly and burdens the government's health system less than non smokers do in old age.

Never made any sense to me.

And look at European commercial sex. The Netherlands has dropped significantly as a preferred destination over time when you read the ISG reports. It is the most legal but regulated commercial sex system in the continent.

Agree...there are arguments that can be made on both sides...I do not blindly follow a left or right wing ideology. If something makes sense it makes sense regardless of what side of the spectrum it might be. A little bit of regulation may have help mitigate the sub prime fiasco in the US. On the other hand if taken too far it can certainly encumber things in other instances. Realize I am firmly ensconced on the fence here, but just my two cents. I abhor intransigent radical thinking weather political, religious, idealogical, moral, economic or otherwise...ramble...ramble....ramble....:blah::yo:

Just my opinion but I do not think that C-36 hurt the average hobbiest, mostly targets the underaged and forced providers. As it should.

You just need one religious fanatic like Vic Toews to get in power and there could be big big trouble for everyone involved.

Vic Toews was behind Harper's original plan to have unlimited warrantless access to everyone's emails and text messages.

The Tories never got to pass that legislation but our Chiefs of Police are still pushing it. They use the same argument that Toews did, that anyone opposing unlimited access to private communication must be a child pornographer.

I get it Patron. I detest laws aimed at saving me from myself. If you want to smoke than smoke your brains out. I do not give a fuck. Just don't play the victim when you contract cancer. I think Patron is trying to say that this type of legislation normally comes from the left. If it came from the right it would still be wrong. The right is another matter. For example, I fear that the right (and catholic left) would like to ban together to outlaw abortions. I am not just pro choice. In some cases I am pro death. Why the hell do we have welfare people spitting out no-goodnick after no-goodnick? Elect me and abortions would not only be free but you would get 100$ and bag of very strong crack or heroin (your choice) if you agree to come in and terminate your pregnancy. This would be much better...but I digress.

Back to menthol cigarettes, still available in Ontario and found a few cartons for ma.
Can not figure out why the tobacco companies did not use the " if alcohol can have flavors why not tobacco " maybe they did but would like to know the lawmakers reply.

Look. We really do not know all the facts here. I suggest we all watch Season 7 Episode 13 of South Park. It is the episode entitle Butt Out. This is a landmark South Park episode that portrays the anti-smoking lobby led by Rob Reiner, as they truly are. The anti-smoking lobby makes a commercial with Eric Cartman posing as a victim of second hand smoke. The anti-smoking group plans to poison Eric and kill him and blame it on Big Tobacco. The episode really highlights the hypocrisy of these zealots that will stop at nothing force others to live as they do.

Around Montréal...
I think that gouvernement should take care of other things highly most important that ban one kind of cigarettes.

Look what happened with cuban cigars in the USA for years: people who want them just get them anyway illegally

I imagine some workers at the government have to justify their occupation and come with this "brilliant" idea.

We are too much legislated but it seems that's even much more complicated in the EU. Ouf! I had a look at an explicative video why Brexit and it seems that the most power a gouvernement is having, the most is making unuseful laws, like Union européeene is making at their siège social in Bruxelles. We can still pretend to be living in a country of liberty, in comparaison. But still, we're having very too much laws interfering with anodine things or complicating business purposes, by example.

This said, happy that you find a solution for your ma
