As our fellow mongers suggest Chao Praya (and I concur), I can tell you that it's not very far from downtown. It's near St. Lawrence and it's not an expensive cab ride from downton. Or there is still the Métro: Laurier Station.
Enjoy your meal sir!

What are the best restaurants to go to in downtown Montreal ?
Recommmendations please since there are so many in downtown and I have only limited time.
Hey Eager, if you like Dim Sum, you should try this place in china town, it's da bomb. I forget the name of it but it's on clark and renne lesveque. I think the name is hotel furama, top notch foodEagerBeaver said:My favorites:
Le Orchidee de Chine (Chinese) on Peel between de Maissoneuve and Sherbrooke
Chao Praya (Thai) 50 Laurier (outside the downtown area)
Le Maison Kam Fung (dim sum) St. Urbain, near Rene Levesque
I don't think it's called Ruby Rouge, i remember it as hotel furama, and it is on the 2nd floor, as spin says. which Kam Fung are you talking about ? in st-laurent ?EagerBeaver said:Spin,

Maiko is definitly good sushi, but have you tried Sho-Dan ? I've been eating sushi for a long long time and haver tried all restraunts, imho, Sho-Dan takes the cake for decor and fresh sushi. Also If you sit @ the bar, they will make you some really cool looking and great tasting stuff. A must try is there Romeo&juliette and the Jade. Also pretty reasonably priced, approx $100 for 2 peeps with wine and appatizers (however you spell it)FunLuver said:If you like Sushi go to Maiko on St-Bernard O in Mtl. Amazing presentation... about 100-200$ for 2 including wine.
