Seems you got your wish. Aaron Taylor-Johnson , 33, has been offered the role (according to The Sun british tabloid). Loved him in Bullet Train.

I can't believe it, Kick-Ass himself is (most likely) going to be the next Bond lol.

Jokes aside, he's definitely got the suave look for Bond. And he's a decent actor too, who has come a LONG way since his Kick-Ass days.

He was great in Bullet Train, like someone already mentioned. And I liked him in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Anyways, an interesting choice. We'll see what happens.

The Guardian is reporting that Aaron Taylor Johnson is out, his agent having overplayed his hand by leaking the news to the press to leverage contract negotiations. It's not the classy way James Bond would have done things, so he is out. We may see a one or two movie contract with Idris Elba:

I have seen all of the bond movies, over and over again through the years and my take from best to worst portrayers:

Sean Connery
Roger Moore
Daniel Craig
Pierce Brosnan
Timothy Dalton
George Lazenby
David Niven

In my opinion, its for the best, i just couldn't picture Aaron as Bond.

Glad to see you around EB, all the best.

I would probably agree with this best to worst list although I never warmed to Daniel Craig as much as some others here did, while at the same time understanding that Craig's take on the role was (arguably) truer to the Ian Fleming books than any of the others. In fact I never particularly liked Craig as an actor, even outside the Bond films, until I saw the movie Knives Out, in which I thought he was brilliant with his untraceable Foghorn Leghorn accent. It's ironic to me that his Knives Out performance was steeped in the cheeky humor he never showed in the Bond movies he made. Similarly with his same character in the Glass Onion, although I didn't like the movie as much as Knives Out.

My opinion is someone new, young, up and coming, talented and relatively unknown is needed. While I think Idris Elba is a fantastic actor, ever since I saw him as Stringer Bell in the Wire, I have always seen him as that kind of character. It's funny because when he was cast in the Wire, that was probably the time to cast him as Bond, and now he is just too old. So instead he is known for carrying the Wire in its first 3 seasons, although the entire cast of that show was good.

See? Told ya'll. This is the same thing every time. The tabloids report a bunch of nonsense about who the next Bond is, and it's never true.

Usually, EON has a director and a script before casting. They don't havea script, and nothing has been said to suggest they have a director... considering just a month or so ago they said nothing has happened with regards to the next Bond.

It's mostly the UK-based media that has been stoking these stories. This is nothing new and has been going on for a long time. I also think EON has been leaking shit to the media to keep them stoked, and keep fan interest alive so that internet threads like this one do not die but stay alive and keep getting fueled until the next film comes out.

Back when Sons of Anarchy's fabulous run ended in 2015 Charlie Hunnam's name was also being thrown around as a Bond successor, but since then his career has stalled and his star has lost luster. He may have peaked with his performance in Sons of Anarchy.

I seriously doubt that Idris Elba is a contender. He's way too old at this point.

That's too bad if Aaron Taylor Johnson is out. But I'm sure they'll eventually get someone decent. They should avoid "name" actors (like Henry Cavill, etc), and go with a young up and comer that has alot or potential going forward.

I personally think Idris Elba is way too old as well, but he has been persistently mentioned for the last 10 years, which is why I said they may give him a one film contract. The concept would be a place holder, as Elba has been a well established actor for 22 years and would probably only want to do one film, anyway. If EON was not bowled over by any of the young candidates who audition for the part, Elba would be a kind of one film insurance policy, if you will.

But that's not been the history, and it's unlikely to happen. Craig was in the role for 16 years and 5 films, and probably aged out of the role in his last 2 movies. Fortunately for him, he has found a better character to play in the Knives Out franchise, Benoit Blanc, as far as showcasing his acting abilities. He has signed to do a third film and may end up doing as many Blanc films as Bond films. The character is not limited by age.

Ideally, you want someone slightly younger than Craig when he got the Bond role, who can also do 5 films in a 15-16 year span. Craig was already close to 40 when he got the role, so I think the person they hire should be early 30s, no older than 35. For comparative purposes, Sean Connery did 7 Bond films in 21 years. But Connery was cast in the first Bond film when he was just 31 years old, enabling that longevity.

If it's a one-off, I'd love to have them bring back Brosnan. It doesn't need to be a full over-the-top action movie. Lean into the thriller side of things. An older Bond, and giving him a nice sendoff at the same time.

He was pretty good in The Gentlemen film, imho. Could also be a case of being type-cast due to Anarchy. I loved him in that series, though.

Dunno if he'd make a good Bond, but he's a good actor.

Brosnan is north of 70 years old now so that would be an interesting choice, and one that would likely land Brosnan on the cover of AARP's monthly magazine. Ringo Starr was their most recent cover boy.

It is very rare to get a second chance to be a leading actor.

Post sons of anarchy he had a shitty movie (king arthur?). Shitty movie is only one strike but strike two and three came when the studios lost tons of money on it.
