An Executive Suite in the Clarion Hotel & Suites on De Maisonneuve West is where I lay my head (and other things) when I'm in town.

On other occasions I've stayed in 4 other hotels in the city, but once I stayed here I wasn't looking anywhere else. Damn that sounds like a TV ad. But it's the truth, IMO, this place is the best.

I based it on location, comfort, room, accommodations, booking availability, and of course Staff attitude towards our antics... These guys have a great sense-of-humor.

Have you been to Clarion Suites recently?

I stayed there twice, most recently during Grand Prix 2 weeks ago. The first time I stayed there three years ago I loved it. Private balcony on the front side of the building looking up the hill, full kitchenette, clean, quiet(easy to sleep). But I had a major problem this time.

My room was on the back side of the building and there was an absolutely overpowering smell coming in through the AC unit. Might have been from a restaurant down below in the parking lot which the room overlooked. Smelled like some exotic spice but was so powerful it was unpleasant. I told the staff but the smell was still there the next day. By the third day it had gotten more bearable but that was probably because my sense of smell had been utterly destroyed.

In addition the hotel is doing renovations on its facade and all the rooms on the backside of the building have had their balconies demolished as I could see the rebars sticking out of the side of the building from the sliding doors which were sealed shut. Then I was awakened on two separate occasions by workers early in the morning as they scaled the side of the hotel in their lift.

I would give them another chance but only when the renovation is complete and only if I am guaranteed a room on the front side of the hotel. Its kind of embarassing when your SP shows up and you are worried about the unpleasantness of the air in your room. I might as well have eaten a bowl of chili and passed wind for an hour before she arrived.

Holiday Inn Express

155 Rene Levesque East.

Not the "best" Montreal hotel, but for the price (under US100) it's pretty good.

Pros: Large, bright, airy 1 bedroom suite well furnished.
Full size working desk
Kitchenette with full size fridge, microwave, etc.
Balcony
Free hi-speed internet
One block from St-Catherines
Comp breakfast

Cons:
Weak A/C in bedroom
No silverware, plates, glasses in kitchen (I served Baron Philippe de
Rothschild Merlot in plastic bathroom cups). Weird because there's a dishwasher.
No restaurant or bar, but like I said, it's only one block from St-Catherines.

Somehow I get the impression that this was/will be a residential condo building. There's tons of closets and cabinets. This would make a great batchelor apartment...and for the next two nights that's exactly what it will be.

On my last visit here, I stayed at the Residence Inn at the corner of De Maisonneuve and Peel. Great location, nice big bed, nice little kitchen with eating area. Silverware, glasses and dishes were provided as well. Plus a full-size fridge and stove.

Another plus was the complimentary hot and cold breakfast every morning, and cocktail appetizers in the late afternoons from Monday to Friday.

Prices were not bad either. I think I paid $179 CDN per night.

Oh, and they have free high-speed wireless Internet.

A not so bad Hotel????

Hey guys,

Nobody gave any review of the Inter-Continental, Queen Elizabeth, Hilton Bonaventure, Ritz Carlton, Sheraton, I know from why back the Chateau Champlain used to have some pretty nice Sp's at the bar but was more hit and miss or should say miss and hit.
But the best all time SP bar was back when the Ruby Foo's restaurant was open, the Black Sheep Bar, was like letting a kid loose in a candy store.
Anyway there you go!!

I've always liked the Omni even when it was the weston. Nice suites & deluxe rooms. Great room service & the SP's always seem to like it. The suites are now non-smoking only which is a downer for us 420 lovers, but still a nice place.

The Vogue was my fav in the past, but on my last visit I had many problems. Broken hot tub, poor room service & damn elevator keys.

Germain is very nice !

My worse experiences were at the QE & the shitty Ritz who will never have my business again in any city.

I'll only stay on the front side, facing the street, with a balcony... Don't want to sound prudish, I just know what I like.
