I love butter chicken, but are they able to do a truly mild version of it? I have a common problem with Indian restaurants - even if I ask for mild I get stuff that is far too hot to be edible. Give me French any day !
I've found good value for Thai at "[SIZE=-1]59 Bangkok", 1639 Ste-Catherine W. (Guy metro) PHONE: 514-846-1003 (Curries are great and they serve this glass noodles salad I once had in Ko Samui: brings back souvenirs)
I love their lemon chicken, but their pad thai is lacking umph: they use frozen veggies
Another really god cheap restaurant I love is Fung Shing in Chinatown on st laurent on the ouest side of the street, just in front of a parking lot. The place doesnt look like anything special but the food isjust freakin amazing!!!! I have never tasted wonton soup that tasted this good, let alone tasted. Everything i had there was just delicious.
Someone mentioned Boutan earlier, lebanese on creasant, it is in my opinion the best place to get a shish taouk in montreal...especially after a night of partying and dancing!!!
its more of a sweet and salty sauce i believe: nothing spicy oniony or fishy...hehehe but the whole dish will be delivered in a spicy fashion. to french in a spicy way is the best way to do it, no?
The restaurant candy is thinking of is buffet maharaja i think... taj mahal is not a buffet... or maybe i get the names wrong... anyways the best indian food i have had was in westmount on sherbrook close to the metro
A bit further you'll find Cosmo's which is probably the most famous greasy spoon in Mtl., basic but great breakfasts, burgers, hamburger steaks...no french fries though, home fries instead. You never know who you might see there, from local celebs to people like Robin Williams, Dan Akroyd and Liona Boyd.
Sam, they used to have pictures of them on the wall in the restaurant. Don't know if the pics are still there but the place is genuinely famous.
I personally saw Akroyd there.
I've lived near Cosmo's for many years and only went inside once. i still don't get it...
On another note, if you like fries belgian-style with a wide variety of mayonnaise-based sauces, then 'Frites Alors' is a great place to go to. It's located on Rachel a block east of St-Denis. Their burgers, beef or otherwise are great and tasty. And with a cold beer as well, you can't go wrong.
