Just wondering about something due to a rendez-vous I had with an SP.

Do any SP (independent or agency) and/or agencies have any issues with non-white hobbyists? Let me explain. At the appointed time, I met with an SP who literally looked like she just saw a ghost when I opened the door. She went to the bathroom. Came out and said something like, "I just want you to know that I have no issue with non-white clients. You just didn't sound african-american on the phone." 1) I'm not african-american. I'm black. 2) What does a black person sound like? Anyway. I was just wondering if there are any bridges that I should not cross so that no one's time is wasted. To be honest, I enjoy hobbying and I'm not bothered by the appearance of my play partners.

Unfortunately some of the sp's are particular about the race of their clients, they dont like

to meet with blacks and hindus. Luckily for you this time the girl didnt have that issue.

Considering you are black you should let them know when you're booking a girl just in case.

Lol..I understand very well your point, beeing myself a colored person.
Take that type of reaction with a grain of salt (as long as she does not bite or spit some hatred words). Some people simply have no tact by nature, so you might see that once in a while. It's pityful but it's life. Now, some people have just a weak influencable mind and because their environment told them to be racist, they just inconsciently carry on with what was told ... whereas they might be, in facts, not that close minded as a person. I am saying this based on my personal experiences with some sps (but it could apply to anyone else in General): I wont give names, but I have met with some sps who were supposedly racists... by their own words btw..lol...but because this or that colored person was a gentleman, they accepted to service the colored-person customer. With time, those same sps realized that they were not that racist but were just brought up with racial hatred fueled by an immature close minded environment. I even know at at least 2 of these once-supposedly-racist-sps who are now married with blacks. So, as you can see: take that with a grain of salt. If the gal is really racist, believe me: you will know it! Otherwise, it is just those sad left-overs from evolving in tact-less surroundings.
BUT as the Mods have just pointed out: there's already a thread on this (seriously: there's nothing new you will learn with regards to this matter..it's like anywhere else...In my own family..In your own..we all have people that are open minded, others not. Some blacks hate whites, some whites hate blacks and life goes on. So, just a perpetuation of the usual life, perceptions, etc). I just wanted to re-assure about not bothering with this (all we need to know, though is who has that restriction so we do not make both the sps and customers losing their time)

The straight answer:

Some SPs do have prejudices. Some have black boyfriends or black pimps who do not want the to have black clients. Some do not care and look at people as individuals regardless of the colour of their skin.

To save yourself some potential headaches, just tell the girl (if she is an indy) or the agency when booking your appointment.
