Thoughts on buying carbon offsets? Looks like this is the new Liberal thing to do, pay in advance so you do not feel guilty to pollute. Trudeau claims it was OK for him to use 2 planes while he was campaigning ( the rest used only 1 ) because he purchased carbon offsets. Here is the kicker, Trudeau bought the carbon offsets from a company called Less Emissions, wait for it.... Owned by a former colleague of Trudeau's chief advisor Gerald Butts.
So the rich can jet around and heat their multiple mansions and pay some money and now they are all good with themselves and can continue to preach to the rest of us to smarten up and pay a carbon tax and live cleaner.

Well for once STN you are on to something that yes is ridiculous.

I was never a believer in any kind of taxes to fix our gas emission problem. I say our but I speak for all countries.

What will work is instant effect.

Look at India who is producing 75% of it's energy with coal. They currently have much trouble breathing in some overcrowded city. They will have to address this issue and move to better energy (like hydro) as a matter of survival. It has been calculated that extreme air pollution cost 50 billion of health related issues to India.

No taxes needed when you are battling to survive.

Thank you for your candor Jali. I applaud you. Yes, I saw a report that you can see the pollution in India from space. I remember my eyes burning by evening time every day I spent in Guangzhou on business. They are both filthy places. Now ask yourself one question: Why do the powers that be want the United States to sign some accord that will force us to cut back on our production and cripple our economy when we can do everything so much cleaner than these two pollution belching shitholes? And by the way, I don't believe that pollution recognizes international boundaries. Let's stop pollution at it's source. Do the right thing. We need more clean sources of energy such as nuclear power and not some feel-good crap like windmills that have to be subsidized and will never pay for themselves in a generation.

^^^ Sol Tee - As you may know from my posting that I am a proponent of Nuclear power and when I argue with liberals who are against it I stop them dead in their tracks by saying that that rifle-dropping country otherwise known as France uses Nuclear power to generate nearly 90% of their electrical power and they hate the US. It stops them dead in their tracks.

What does Chernobyl have to do with anything? Reactors of the type used in Chernobyl were widely discredited even before the accident, and many people even in the Soviet Union were warning about them. The accident could only happen because the country was so fucked up. No wonder it disintegrated just a few years later.
