Techman, you answered my question before I could post it.

OK, a followup question: I understand your point on car keys and such. But forcing clients to check their car keys is to guard against an anticipated issue outside of the club. This would concern a behavior that would violate the privacy of the club and its dancers? Would this change the issue some?

CS Martin

I think that for a club to use that as a reason they would first have to prove that the issue is in fact a problem. One customer every now and then who tries to take pictures doesn't justify preventing every client from carrying their cell phone.

Besides, just because a phone has a camera in it doesn't mean that the owner of the phone knows how to use it. I have a camera in my phone but by the time I could take a picture with it my subject will have had time to move 100 feet away. If I want to take pictures, I use my camera, not my phone. If I want to make a phone call, I use my cell phone. When it comes to cell phones, I'm technically challenged.

Do you think some type of strobe lighting could work? or other lighting? Just a thought.

High intensity infra red lighting might do the job as most photo sensors are sensitive to it. At least they were when I was in the video surveilance business, might be different now. But the cost would be ridiculous to install such a system and I doubt that clubs would be willing to spend the money.

You can test this by taking a photo of your television remote control in a dark room while holding a button on the remote down to see if your camera sensor captures the infra red light emmitted by the remote.

Thanks for answering so quick. I'm not trying to be smart here, but I just thought of something that gave me a chuckle. Isn't infrared lighting what diners and fast food places use to keep their food warm? Gave me visions of a patrons cooking under a fast food heat lamps.

Different frequency of IR light I believe. Never tried taking a shot of IR heating lamps though. Could be interesting. Infra red lights are commonly used in surveillance situations to illuminate dark areas without visible light and the cameras can record a perfectly clear image. People who think they are operating in the dark end up being confronted with clear images of themselves committing a crime. Black and white images only though, not colour.

There is also infra red sensitive film stock which gives amazing images once developed after being shot in daylight conditions. Requires special handling and developing obviously.

Visiting Planet Earth
Hello all,

I have done some professional photography in several capacities. I don't know the level of sensitivity to light cell phones have or their ability to stop motion into a sharp recognizable image. But I have seen their resolution capacities. Let me say this, the generally dim lighting in a strip club is not necessarily a problem. The light falling on the subject is the key, and if a fairly stationary subject is spotlighted then the subject could be vulnerable even without a flash. It's unlikely most of the time, but if a spotlight is put on a subject in some ways I have seen for any length of time it a decent photo can be gotten. Of course, the photographer would have to be ready to take a chance opportunity. But some spotlights can simulate daylight enough to provide necessary light levels and are in effect a steady low level flash themselves. However, given the factors of a steady hand, depth of field, accurate focus, subject movement, camera sensitivity and a spotlight opportunity all combining...not to mention hiding the attempt...good results aren't likely. Still, it can be done.

If a lens is available that can fill the frame with the spotlighted subject enough that the camera doesn't have to average in a large percentage of much darker areas that would tilt the well lighted portions too far into an over-exposure level then it could work. If this seems too complicated it really isn't. There are a lot of cheaper and very small cameras and some phone cameras that have the capacity.

really,

Merlot

More DEElightful Nonsense

Dee said:
Only the most simpleminded (or devious) who had absolutely no real life, let alone Strip Club, experience, would even hint at banning cell phones from SCs... no one, not even idiotnonsavants, would even hint at the suggestion that cellphones not be allowed in SCs... like, what fool would ever leave his cell phone with some Neantheral bouncer who might check out the wealth of personal information on the cell phone or drop it in the toilet while he was unplugging it?!!!!!So what's the fastest route to bankrupting for a strip club??? Insisting that you not bring your cell phone into the club or insisting that you leave your phone with some idiot bouncer....

Geez... what are you a Trustee in Bankruptcy trying to stir up a liittle business?

Pathetic...

Oh, almost forgot.... don't forget to erect some "straw man" and attack it.... and #2... don't forget to tell us about your wealth of experience living of the avails of strippers...

yawn...

More nonsense from THE expected source.

Cellphone bans are presently in force in various privately owned industrial, commercial, financial and other data sensitive buildings and facilities. Hospitals ban cellphones for health and safety reasons. Cellphones are also banned in bathrooms in various public buildings - arenas / Hebert Arena in St.Leonard being one such example. Various schools / school boards are looking at banning cellphones, usually at the instigation of the teacher's union.

The nature of beast is that legislation or a rule is proposed at a maximum level and then modified downwards to suit the situation. More efficient than starting low or in the middle. It draws attention and all concerned parties get emotional and participate, which is after all the goal getting as many valid opinions as possible.

As for SCs going bankrupt. This cry has surfaced everytime changes were proposed or different competitors surfaced. Bankruptcy was a fear when massage parlours surfaced in Montreal in the seventies, when contact was allowed, when smokng was banned, when zoning regulations changed, etc.
SCs are still around. So you are the one raising straw men etc.

Your ability to grasp certain concepts is best exemplified by your point about
"unplugging" a cellphone. Most people leave home with a charged phone, no extension or plug is necessary.

Responsible Atmosphere

Bottom line is, if someone wants to take a picture their going to. So EE's original premise (with the possible exception of Techman's idea) seems the only short term response. Techman's idea may be a "market driven" solution. In other words EE, a club looking to add additional draws to its presentation might consider something tech driven, if available?

CS Martin,

The issues comes down to control. The club has to be responsible for everything that happens inside its doors. Best way to do this is being pro-active.

You raise the issue that certain patrons may want a picture. If pictures are available the need to use a cellphone is greatly reduce. Certain features travel with stock photos that they sell or will even sign and sell. In the early 1990's various Amercan SCs produced baseball card type photos of dancers.
Certain Atlanta clubs (Stewart St) had club photographers and designated areas for picture in the late 1990's.In all instances the cost of the photo is minor compared to the aggrevation of being caught taking unauthorized pictures.

In all instances revenues are increased and shared by all according to a pre-determined formula.

The other reality is that there will always be customers who push the envelope. Look at the entertainment industry and the problems with people taping concerts or movies. Even if the cost of a legit album or movie is minimal people will go to great extents to pirate the product.

So you need strong regulations in place. Over time these will be fine tuned.

Can't speek to regulations, but the premise of charging seems valid, AS LONG AS THE CLUBS AND DANCERS DON'T MAKE A PIG OF THEMSELVES. As always being reasonable & competitive would seem correct. The idea of club photographers seems interesting, especially if she's cute and is commission driven. :D But, that's just the letch in me talking.

YOU have a letch living inside of you???? What a coincidence me too! LOL

Gosh what's happening to you? You used to be a pretty good debater. Now all you can do is to occasionally raise yourself from the pathetic to the woefully weak... this, unfortunately, is not one of those occasions.

Try to grasp this concept: there is a difference between a ban on the POSSESSION of a cell phone and a ban on the USE of the same. We were talking about the former and not the latter.

.... and, goodness me, do you really think that SC patrons would accept a ban on POSSESSION?

In response to my comment:

ike, what fool would ever leave his cell phone with some Neantheral bouncer who might check out the wealth of personal information on the cell phone or drop it in the toilet while he was unplugging it?!!!!!

I desperately hope that you were making a joke... if so, very well done my friend. If not, I hope you continue to find people who will chew your food for you and help you get dressed.

(Try not to be so negative and critical all the time... I think you will enjoy yourself more.... honestly...)

Dee,

Twice you have spelled "Neanderthal" incorrectly in this thread while sputterig along irrelevently. Self-parody suits you very well.

Correct spelling view: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neanderthal

Then you admit that you cannot determine when I am joking and when I am serious. Hint: I cannot take you seriously since the tick, tick, tick era, the repeated pointless and cruel comments about an SP's physique elsewhere after she asked that posters refrain from such comments in her seminal post. Factor in your delusional position that I can somehow control the actions of independent adults with a simple request while you offer stand alone proof that requests for basic courtesy are ignored by some - you in the above example.

Government legislation would be required to ban the POSSESSION of a cellphone and such legislation is not going to happen. Various public and private venues can ban the USE of cellphones, true for other products as well - see below, on their premises. They can also demand that such items be checked at the door if the person possessing one or more wishes to enter.

Examples of the such bans on use may be found in arenas that deny entry to ticketholders with noisemakers.Check the noisemaker and enter is the policy. Yet such arenas are not abandonned by spectators. Likewise certain arenas will not allow ticketholders to bring in outside food and drink. Check or toss the items. Again they are not abandonned by the spectators. Many concert venues ban recording and filming devices.Check the device or go home. They are not abandonned by music fans.
