I believe it's only free for couples on certain nights (mondays/tuesdays i think), i pass by there often multiple times per day, i'll give you some news.

I've search "cinema l'amour" before asking the question and find a couple of threads.
For what I understand, single men are not allowed in the VIP section at the balcony, only couples.

There are booths at that balcony and the single perverst on the floor can only look from a distance.
That being said, don't take my word on it, this is only based on what I've read ...

I was there twice 2 years ago, once by myself on the main floor, and yes there was a distinct odour down there, but on the second floor where couples are only allowed, there wasn't anything bad to smell, I had been with my girlfriend at the time up there and it was a pleasant experience overall. The only bad thing were the guys on the first floor gathering in bunches close to the main screen on the side aisles in order to spy up at us. That was a little distracting.
Up on the balcony you have semi private booths but if they are all filled up, then you have these open chairs by the railings

No, we didn't end up trying Cinéma L'amour ... I talked to someone on the web and since we were so new to that "voyeurisme / exhibitionnisme" thing, he suggest us to try a private house call "Chez Catherine" in Ste-Sophie ... which we did.

And we had an amazing night !!

That place made the news in December for two reasons
1- The town wanted to make them close
2- The house burned down on Christmas Day !
