Spitzer's hypocrisy is forgiveable, if for no other reason then he will never be able to campaign on an anti-prostitution platform while running for any political office ever again. You guys should WANT Spitzer elected exactly for the reasons you say he is an unforgiveable hypocrite. Simply put, Spitzer can never touch prostitution ever again, politically speaking. Indeed, he would have to adopt a position in favor of legalizing and taxing it, especially in his new job as comptroller.

Bingo. Nobody is talking about the other candidates. Most political races are decided by who is the most TALENTED insincere hypocrite. Spitzer is more talented by fucking light years than anyone running for public office in New York City. That is what should decide the election, if you are a NYC voter with the interests of NYC in your heart.

Actually Spitzer did have the reputation of being effective in getting done what he said he would do as a politician. Do politicians have some other job we don't know about besides that? Who cares whether stuff he did in his personal life was different than his policies, so long as he delivered on the policies he promised when running for office? Should voters care about what he does outside the lines of his office?

Yes, because he prosecuted escort agencies.

How the state of NY can even prosecute anybody for prostitution after Spitzer was not even thoroughly investigated nor prosecuted is mind boggling. If anyone of us were to get busted for prostitution in NY it would create a huge problem for our career since you would have it on your record. Yes, it cost Spitzer his political career, but he really doesn't need the job. He's independently wealthy. Holding office for him benefits only his HUGE ego.
