They're mostly young & fun to watch with a good manager, a lot of team spirit and some exciting players in Davies, David, Buchanan and Larin.

Finishing first in CONCACAF should make for a favorable draw in the group stage. And I can see them scoring some goals (unlike '86) on the counter and maybe getting to the Round of 16. But seriously-good NTs are likely to run through their midfield and tear them apart in defense ....

... but who cares, it's all gravy from here on!

Support in the country is sure to be sky high come the end of the year. And Little Italy in Montreal will have someone to cheer for ... (sorry!)

PS Can we arrange for some snow in Qatar in November?

Ok CONCACAF qualifying continues again tonight.

3 critical games for the group standings.

Canada vs Panama
USA vs Costa Rica
Mexico vs El Salvador

I'm hoping Canada wins tonight or gets a draw because a draw guarantees 1st in the group for Canada

If CRC beats USA and Mexico draws with El Salvador, that means CRC finished 3rd and Mexico has to go to inter continental playoffs lol

Sadly, they lost ... possibly the emotional win against Jamaica took too much out of them as they didn't seem to get going until well into the 2nd half tonight.

But I think they still finish first overall in CONCACAF on a positive goal difference with Mexico.

WC draw is on Friday ...

The loss is not a big deal, finishing 1st or 2nd is the same for WC draw purposes

that said, it is of course better to finish 1st because that will improve CONCACAF ranking going forward

Avoided the groups with Germany/Spain & France/Denmark ... but still a tough group.

1. An aging Belgium are serial under-performers but as talented individually as anyone in the world. Likely not to rate us or be especially up for it, so maybe a surprise draw in the first game.

2. Croatia peaked in '18 and were a little disappointing at Euro '20, but still a consummate footballing nation despite their small talent pool. Canada’s attackers can get something off their defenders ...

3. Morocco are a decent side, if equivalent to the '18 squad. This is the one we'll have to win in order to have any chance of advancing to the next stage.
