Cuban cigar thread.

Just got the news today!. I am going to Cuba at the end of September or early November. While have smoked some Cuban cigars and enjoyed them, I am not a regular smoker. I have tried Monte Cristos number 4 and number 2s, and I have found them quite mild and enjoyable, the Romeo and Julliettas nearly killed me.
Can anyone recommend any other brands that are very mild and aromatic? I would also like to know the the situation on bringing back some Quality Cuban rum.

The Montecristo no2 is one of my favorites. I admit it is relatively strong. The Partagas Series D no 4 is a great cigar and softer. The cohibas (the top brand) is also somewhat softer. I particularly like the Cohiba Robusto and the Siglo VI.

I am not sure but I think you can bring back either 50 or 100 cigars.

I personally enjoy smoking Tueros. They are affordeable, nicely packaged, and good to smoke. Almost as good as smoking the weed back in Jamaica, 15 years ago. Man, that stuff was great!!

If you can get your hands on them, the SigloIII is the perfect quick smoke.

Bolivar,Partagas,hoyo de monterey, are superb! The problem with Cohibas is that since they're the most popular, fakes are everywhere...Alhtough fakes are not made at the real factory, for $30-$50us you can get a pretty good box of Habanos (cuban cigars)

If you like small cigars I recomend Montecristo #4 or Cohiba Siglo I,II,or III

for long cigars...Trinidad

for short and fat,(robustos)...Cohiba Robusto or Partagas

and the ultimate size are the "torpedo's" either Montecristo #2 or Bolivar belicosos.

Keep in mind...every canadian away for at least 48hrs is allowed to bring in ONLY 50 cigars !

The ultimate Cuban Rum Is HAVANA CLUB 15YEARS OLD ! BAR NONE!

I found the Monte Cristos to be the lightest of all of the brands mentioned. The Romeo and Juliettas were very harsh and I have also tried Cohibas that were not as enjoyable as the Montre Cristos.
I believe that the allotment per person at this time is 2 boxes plus on loose box (opened and less than 25 cigars). I will not be forgetting my cigarelos allotment as well. As for booze the allotment I believe is 2 bottles per person.

Hey NOOKY, do you know your cuban cigars?

They certainly make Siglo VI. I actually own a box of them. I'm a very lucky guy since you can only get them in Havana. Elsewhere they are very difficult to find. They have received top ratings from Cigar Aficionado Magazine (ratings of 96 and 95). It is THE top Cuban cigar (although this may be a matter of taste). Check out these articles by James Suckling:

The man was asking what we recomend.

Although Cohiba makes a "limited edition siglo vi " the availability is almost impossible. therefore i meant they don't make it for general distribution.

while in Cuba two months ago, I saw an opened box at casa del habano.....they were selling one cigar for $90.us

I have to admit that my favorites are the Montecristo #1. They are called "torpedos" because, well, they really look like torpedos. They are priced, in Montreal, at around 75$ each. The last time I smoked one of those bad boys, I took 5 hours to do so. Slowly.....

Also the Romeo & Juliette are very good and somewhat inexpensive cigars compare to other "long" cigars. I am not a big fan personnaly of the Cohibas. I find them too mild.

The last time I had one was at Christmas last year. I purchased them at the boutique: "Tout un Tabac". They are usually affiliated with Loblaws. I don't know if they are still in business but the last one I saw was the LobLaws on Jean-Talon and Parc Avenue.

There is also a very nice cigar store on Ste-Catherine just East of Creasent and I am certain they will have it.

They are HUGE and they are very tasty....

montecristo #1's are long and thin....the #2 is the torpedo....

Pat and Robert have a good selection, but their stock is somewhat old....I've had my eye on some cigars there that haven't moved in about three years.

"CASA DEL HABANO'' on sherbrooke st. has the freshest of Cubans! good lounge in the back also !

One has to be crazy to buy cigars in Montreal. We all know several people going for a week of vacation to Cuba. Just place an order. For example, the Cohiba Robusto that sells for US$5 in Cuba is Can$50 in Montreal.

For non-Cuban cigar. I order from Cigar.com and have them Fedex to my hotel when I am in the US.

You don't buy cigars in Montreal. Prices are overboard.
You can buy cigars at the duty free shops if you travel!
Non Cuban cigars? Are they cigars at all?
Montecristo Number 4 are hard to beat!

Dominican cigars (grown by former Cubans) are of very high quality but hard to find. The nice thing about Cuba is that you buy cigars in the Casa Habana which is government-owned, a bit like the SAQ or LCBO here for booze. This way quality is pretty much quaranteed unlike buying at the hotel or, worse, on the beach - a definite no-no! In the Dominican Republic you never know whether you are buying a real or fake unless you go to a reliable store in a big town which not where the resorts generally are.

Time Has Passes

I still have some of my Cohiba Siglo V, linea 1492's left. Cost me $600 for the box a few years back in Bermuda - where they are fresh, not like in Canada. Went back a few years ago, and bought about 4 cubans to decide what to bring back - all were not worth the effort. Too much demand has made the Cubans only on par, or less, with the other offerings. I look for a good Arturo-Fuente, like a double chateau maduro. Hell, an A-F curly head would have been better than two of the Cubans I tried, that I actually put out before they were finished. BTW, I bought them at Tabac, not at Chatam House,

Unfortunately, the cigars vary too much from year to year, more so the Cubans. Time was I would pay the $30 for a Cohiba Silgo V, but that time has passed.

here's alink for cuban cigar. It's a comnpany that sells only for exportation from canada. As they are not allowed to sell in canada according to I don't know what rules.

A friend of mine who lives in the us orders from them quite often.
