Route

My destination in DC is in the Reagan National airport area. I plan to stay at a hotel between Baltimore and DC the night before since it's cheaper accommodations - I think near this town called Laurel. It shouldn't take me that long to get to DC from Laurel during a Saturday morning would it?
How long do you figure is the trip from Montreal to DC via the I-87/I-95 route through NY/Philly/Baltimore compared to the I-81/270 route?
Depending on where your Montreal departure point is(west or east of Decarie) you have to consider the following:
1.)west of Decarie less traffic if you take the 40/401 to the parkway(near the casino) before Kingston cross at Hill Island and take the 81 south to the
83 (the 270 is too far south and west of Harrisburg). Before Baltimore you will see signs that will allow you to skirt Baltimore to the west and down to
Washington.
2.)east of Decarie less traffic if you take the 15 from the Champlain bridge to the 87 down to Albany. At Albany take the 90 west for two or three exits
the 88 which you take to the 81 at Binghamton then down to the
Harrisburg area where you can take the 83(the 270 is too far south and west of Harrisburg) before Baltimore you will see signs that will allow you to skirt Baltimore to the west and down to Washington.
3.)taking the 87 down to the 287 the picking up the 95 southbound about 10
exits north of Philly creates the following problems. You risk being caught in serious traffic at the bridge crossing NJ into PA(Philadelphia) and serious traffic at the bridge and tunnel around Baltimore. If you plan to stay in a hotel/motel overnight before Washington they are much cheaper on the backside coming in from the 83 than on the 95.The closer you are to
Harrisburgh the cheaper the typical rate.At most rest areas or tourist info
stops you can find a northeast motel /hotel discount magazine about 80+
pages of discount coupons.
4.)if you are going to Washington to catch a Nationals game the 88 goes
past Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame.
As for travelling time - hard to say since you do not mention where you will be leaving from, when or your driving habits but from the greater Montreal are either way about nine hours road time.
Have a safe trip.
