The Senate voted 51-50 to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking the tie.
The climate and economic package will extend health care coverage, combat climate change and put billions of dollars toward deficit reduction.

Congratulations on Democrats for getting this bill great bill passed.

Defying anxiety about a possible recession and raging inflation, America's employers added a stunning 528,000 jobs last month, restoring all the jobs lost in the coronavirus recession. Unemployment fell to 3.5%, lowest since the pandemic struck in early 2020.

July's job creation was 130,000 more than than those produced in June, and the most since February.

Economists had expected only 250,000 new jobs this month.

About the Inflation Reduction Act, The CBO estimates that enacting this legislation would result in a net decrease in the deficit totaling $102 billion over the 2022-2031 period.

I am willing to bet that, regardless of which party takes power between now and 2031, the duopoly will find something to spend people's stolen tax dollars on to expand the deficit by significantly more then the measly $102 billion this bill boasts to reduce the deficit by over 10 years.

There is little point in criticizing the welfare state without condemning corporate welfare. This is certainly true regarding today's passage of the $430 billion "Inflation Reduction Act", a key selling point is for massive subsidies for so called green energy (climate change initiatives).

Most politicians know very little or care very little about the environment. Green corporate welfare is about stealing your money through taxation and giving it to wealthy campaign donors and doing so in a way that makes politicians look brave, humanitarian, and scientifically literate. But the reality is this is all just political theater to score political points. Liberal voters are very proud of this bill.

U.S. House Democrats ushered in a new generation of leaders on Wednesday with Rep. Hakeem Jeffries elected to be the first Black American to head a major political party in Congress as long-serving Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her team step aside next year.

Showing rare party unity after their midterm election losses, the House Democrats moved seamlessly from one history-making leader to another, choosing the 52-year-old New Yorker, who has vowed to "get things done," even after Republicans won control of the chamber. The closed-door vote was unanimous, by acclamation.

"It's a solemn responsibility that we are all inheriting," Jeffries told reporters on the eve of the party meeting. "And the best thing that we can do as a result of the seriousness and solemnity of the moment is lean in hard and do the best damn job that we can for the people."

On the other side of the aisle, Republican Kevin McCarthy won a leadership vote earlier this month but saw 31 of his party colleagues vote against him. He'll have a chance to become the next Speaker with a majority vote when the House convenes in January.

Wednesday's internal Democratic caucus votes of Jeffries and the other top leaders came without challengers.
