I recently saw a post that referred to an escort making $120/hr. If it matters, the poster was suggesting that the SP makes plenty ("tax free," as he put it). I have no idea where this figure came from, but it got me wondering ... Of the $160/$180/hr, to pick the rates of two popular montreal agencies, how much does the agency take, how much does the girl get, how much to the driver, etc? If I give a girl $180/hr, how much does she actually pocket? I'm curious because I'm curious, but also because it helps to think about tips, etc.

i have read advertizments for sp that offer $100 per hr. and $110 per 2 hour apointment. these agenceys charge $160 per hour.

Agencies typically charge $160/hour. The breakdown at reputable agencies is $100 goes to ladies, $20 to the driver and $40 to the agency owner. Some agencies charge $180/hour and pay their ladies a little more, say $120 per call. But the few agencies that charge $200+/hour are not necessarily paying ladies a lot more or getting bookings as easily.

As a rule of thumb agencies take between 40 and 60 % of the take.

Some agencies, include the driver at those rates, others leave transportation up to the girl with a driver available. Some agencies provide condoms, others don't. Some allow you to do your own thing between calls, others expect you to be in a vehicle being driven around for your whole shift. Some places expect you to pay for your photos...

In other words, don't take everything you read at face value. Sometimes there are hidden expenses.

Thanks everyone. I suppose it's what I expected. I'm used to the indie US scene and hadn't used an agency until a month ago in montreal. For me, it's largely about trying to be an 'educated consumer,' as it were. At the risk of sounding like a bleeding heart, my concern about agencies is the risk that the SPs get exploited. I can see that agencies provide the workers with a helpful organizational structure, handling logistics, and ideally doing at least a bit of screening. But I'm guessing that SPing can be a tough gig and I would hope that the women are compensated accordingly. Thus my comment about tipping; I guess we all have to do our own math based on our own budgets and sense of propriety, and I wouldn't venture to try to fix a value on services. (Really, how do we determine what a bj is worth? I know of streetwalkers charging $20, and also LA indies charging $500 or more an hour.) But it helps me to know how much of my "donation" is going to the SP and how much is going elsewhere. I realize that I may get flamed for this, but my hope is to ensure that any SP I see is being fairly and even generously compensated.

So the agency does the work of finding, promoting and booking the girl. You want to use the agency to find a "favorite" and then cut the agency out of the deal?

Maybe all of the Montreal agencies should take notice of your intentions and just ban you completely so they won't have to worry about you stealing from them!

The fact is though some girls will attempt to cut the agency out of the loop if they have seen the same person several times and feel comfortable with him. I have never brought it up myself, but have been offered this 3 times. I indulged only once, and even then paid the full fee. Aside from the 3 firm offers, I have had covert implications like when the SP repeatedly talks about how she has no plans for tomorrow.

I would never do it again though, unless it was here in the US. Since its the hobby is illegal here (and aggressively investigated by LE), all the agencies collect loads of personal info on the client, I would welcome anything that left less of a paper trail in case the agency gets busted.

The difference between you (me, and most MERB members) and roberpal is he has announced his plans to seek out agency ladies and propose cutting the agency out of the deal. I'm hoping that the agency owners that either participate in, or at least read, MERB will cut him out of the deal!

I've also been offered by agency SPs to cut the agency out of the equation (but only twice). I've never asked for any agency girl's contact information for whatever reason and I've never proposed cutting the agency out of the deal. If the girl proposes it to me, I don't notify the agency regardless of how the encounter went.

Regarding the two times that an agency SP asked me to contact her directly as opposed to going through the agency, I only took 1 of the SPs up on the offer since with the other SP, I didn't really have any inclination to repeat with her. I enjoyed myself with her but I just didn't feel like repeating with her.

This interests me. This thread began when I asked a question about fees, my concern being that agencies could be in a position to exploit their workers. But the last posts have turned that around to express concern that it could be the agency getting used by the SPs (and clients). As I've said, my experience is mostly with indies in the US, using TER as a resource. On that site, though the information is excellent, many of the male posters are 'protective' of the girls, like groupies, obsequiously rushing to an escort's defense every time there is a hint of criticism. I find it often condescending and patronizing (in the worst sense). On MERB the attitude is more mature, far less gushing about the star SPs, far less of a fan club with guys kissing up (as it were). Still, I've got to say I'll have to think about the situation when an SP goes behind the back of the agency to set up dates. I can see that the agency has invested some time into promoting the girl; but isn't it also her body and her decision about whom she sees? I guess it comes back to economics; what is an appropriate amount for an agency to make off a girl's back (...)? Just how grateful should an SP be, and for how long? I'm not trying to start a debate--I really don't know--but it's at the very least a tough call...

Believe it or not, I was offered exactly the opposite:
A girl offered to see me without charging me, but only though the agency.
So one of us would have to pay the agency and driver fee ($60 for an hour, out of the regular $160)
