In any event this episode is a huge embarassment to the Open security staff because after all this guy could have had a knife and we could have seen a repeat of the Monica Seles incident. It was fortunate that he was only a horny, harmless fag with no intentions other than to hug and kiss Nadal. I suspect that changes will be made in security protocol. By analogy at Yankee Stadium when a fan runs out onto the field of play he is tackled, removed, ejected from the Stadium and arrested. It looks like the tackling part was missing from US Open security staff's protocol.

Yes Scott. Nothing about player agents makes them memorable.

Basic issue isn't the security but the law. Slap on the wrist fine is more than offset by the 15 seconds of fame, or a lifetime of renown at the local bar mooching drinks or "dates" as the guy who ran onto the court to kiss Nadal or was tackled at second base at Yankee Stadium.

I am assuming that a straight or heterosexual man would not have run onto the Court to hug and kiss Rafael Nadal. As far as Nadal enjoying it, that's not what it looked like to me. It looked like he had some words for the guy, but he seemed to laugh the incident off. He also won his match which had been postponed at that point, in dominating fashion, so the incident cannot be said to have bothered him too much.

Eastender - the problem in not violently tackling guys like this is that the media gives them their 15 minutes of fame simply because he got to Nadal. If he is tackled, he never makes it on camera or else its a shot not worth showing on worldwide Internet media outlets.

Yeah, but I think the assumption is a pretty good one here. The man who kissed Nadal, an Israeli national, made statements that kissing a man in public is no big deal in his native Israel, which is known to be very tolerant towards public displays of gay affection. More here:
