That’s not why the habs lost. They were simply beaten by a better team. More skill, more toughness, more size & better goaltending.
Sometimes it is difficult to give credit where it is due to the hated opponent. I would be willing to bet that most of the posters here do not know that Tom Wilson had his best season as an NHL player this year. 33 goals and 32 assists for 65 points. He never previously had 30 goals or 30 assists in a season and bested his prior best season by 13 points. He also had an efficient 100 penalty minutes. What this means is he is bullying very effectively and not getting called for as many penalties, as we have seen in this series.

I wish the HABS would have a Clark Gillies in his team.
Tom Wilson wouldn't be making the law on ice.
He once broke the two cheek bones of an adversary in a fight with his fist !
And he scored goals too.

If the Habs had Gillies he would do to Tom Wilson exactly what he did to Dave Schultz in the below fight. You guys are too young to remember, but Schultz and the Flyers would try and bully and intimidate the young Mike Bossy, much like Wilson bullies and intimidates the Habs. The bullying of Bossy eventually stopped because the Flyers learned there was this price to pay:

We are getting to see amazing glimpses into our future. We need to be reminded that we were lucky to even make the playoffs, that each game is gravy and this is the best learning experience for all our young players (and fans).
There's still a lot of hockey to be played, and all I want is to see them battle through the pain 1 game at a time.

MSL did some bad mistakes last night, he also needs to learn. He got outcoached hard last night.
That hit on Carrier never should have gone unanswered even if he did have his head low, that was clearly intentional from Wilson. And removing Dobes with 3 min to go without having puck posession WTFFFFF.

The kids fell into the trap, hopefully they won't ever again. But damn... they did improve, just need to improve more. I'm still loving where this team is going.

Now I'm hoping Oilers break. With McJesus contract up next year... one can only dream that he will want out of Deadmonton.

My takes on last night’s game:
-The Habs didn’t deserve to win. When you have 5 shots on goal in the game’s first 28 minutes you don’t deserve to win.
-Contrary to what a few people believe i found Dobes very shaky. I found him terrible on a couple of goals. Sure he made some nice saves (which he’s supposed to do) but a couple of goals he let in were bad.
-Lane Hutson possibly played his worse game last night.
-Mike Matheson played a great game & played 28 minutes! Wow!
-Martin St-Louis got outcoached even though he had the last change on home ice.
-I agree that tsking the goalie out with so much time left was ridiculous!
-Josh Anderson is a warrior & has been by far the Habs best player in these playoffs.
-Tom Wilson is a beast & played like one. What a player! What a game changer. By the way his bonecrushing hit on Alex Carrier was legal & a game-changer. Kudos for Carrier for getting up & skating back to the bench on his own.
-In this series the Habs’ lack of size (as compared to Washington) is glaring. Not only are the Caps bigger but they’re also meaner. Much meaner!
-Demidov & Slafkovsky playing better & better as the series goes on.
-Xekaj playing better than i expected. The habs will regret trading him this offseason if that’s their intent.
-Like all season long the Habs’ lack of depth is a major problem. Kent Hughes failed them when he failed to acquire a veteran goalie & a top 6 centre at the deadline. This is a big reason why they won’t advance past Washington.
-Patrick Laine is back to being Patrick Laine. Big questions what to do with him during the offseason. Should they keep him? Should they trade him but pay a big price for a team to take him on? Should they buy him out? We shall see.
-And finally although the habs will likely be eliminated on Wednesday they have nothing to be ashamed of & have a lot to look forward to. They’ve had a very successful season & should be proud of their season. Martin St-Louis has finally become an NHL coach & will be even better next season.

Schultz was saved by one or two of his team mates.
In the same era, in a pre-season game, the Habs brought 2 or 3 of his tough guys in the American League. One was Sean Shanahan. I don't remember which Flyer player or players he beat to a pulp but the Habs was able to play hockey in the season against the Broadstreet bullies.
The Habs had a few tough guys in their team like Pierre Bouchard and Larry Robinson and others Ehose names I don't remember.

Dave Schultz became a nobody once he left the Flyers & left his wolf pack. I remember some guy named Ken Houston beating the crap out of him when Schultz played for the Kings. He had a huge target on him when he left Philly & every wannabe goon wanted to take him on. Teams who acquired him realized that he was a shadow of the feared player he was. Schultz was not the same player without the likes of Saleski, Kelly, Dupont & Bridgeman around him. Same thing for the players i just mentioned (especially Saleski) when they joined other teams. Similar story with big Dave Semenko. He didn’t scare anybody once he left the Oilers. Or even John Kordic when he no longer had tough guys like Chris Nilan next to him. As for Pierre Bouchard he was never the same player after he was destroyed by the much smaller Stan Jonathan.
