We still don’t know what circumstances led to his suicide. Maybe we never will find out what was going through his head. I’ve been involved with cases where it was a quick, last minute decision. A friend of mine who committed suicide wrote in his goodbye letter that it had taken him less than 48 hrs to make up his mind. Another one decided to blow his brains out after learning he had terminal cancer a day earlier. People even tried to talk him out of it minutes earlier but he had made up his mind. He didn’t even leave a letter. What i’m saying is that every circumstance is usually different. In Lemieux’ case i could only speculate but it wouldn’t surprise me if we later found out that he was suffering from CTE, which is often seen in deceased athletes who played violent sports where concussions from physical contact happen. It’s actually suprising that there aren’t more boxers or mma fighters committing suicide. I myself boxed at the amateur level during my teens & i retired from boxing because i got tired of the constant headaches from punches to the head. I even fought several times with these headaches. I also suffered even more serious blows to the head (one nearly killed me) many years ago. I was a walking zombie with a huge headache for a few weeks. It wouldn’t surprise me if i don’t already suffer from cte myself, to be honest. I’ll never really find out.Sad sad sad, I cant imagine the hard mascarade he had to put up at the Bell Center for the ceremony and meeting all his old buddies while suffering deep inside. May he rest in peace.
