I saw Rush is touring next year for the first time since the death of their drummer Neil Peart. I think it is their 50th anniversary. What is the greatest musical group, band or solo artist to ever come out of Canada?

Skinny Puppy is probably my favorite. Eric's Trip were good. Their song "Behind the Garage" is a favorite and I can play it on guitar.

I can't stand Rush. Not because I think they're bad or anything, I've just been forced to listen to them too much. I've had a few jobs where the classic rock station was played all day. In an 8 hour shift, you're going to hear Rush at least 3 times and it'll likely be Tom Sawyer every time.

It’s a long list & depends on your musical tastes. On my personal list would be the aforementioned Rush, Neil Young, The Tragically Hip, Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO), April Wine, Glass Tiger, Gordon Lightfoot, Loverboy, Barenaked Ladies, Offenbach, Tom Cochrane & Anne Murray. I still regularly listen to their great music. Eric Lapointe is another rocker i enjoy listening to. Two groups that i used to listen to regularly in my younger years were Prism & Streetheart. I ABSOLUTELY USED TO LOVE THEIR MUSIC! The reason i mentioned them is because i’ve always felt they didn’t get the credit they deserved by music fans.

There's a lot, from a variety of genres. It's also subjective. To make it easy we could just say prominent or popular and that would make it much easier. Rush, Joni Mitchell, Shania Twain, Bieber, Drake, The weeknd, Hank Snow, Oscar Peterson, Neil Young and Celine Dion are all music industry giants and all Canadian but they mostly wouldn't be my favorites. So, are they the "greatest" because they are huge? Not really. I defy you to find much of anyone on this forum (since we're not 12 year old girls) who defines Bieber as one of the great musicians of our time.

Canada punches above its weight music-wise though. Lots of great bands and solo artists.

Take your pick from Tragically Hip, Rush, Bryan Adams, The Band, The Guess Who, BTO, Alessia Cara, Shania, Celine, Triumph, Tom Cochrane, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Oscar Peterson, Drake, The Weeknd, Alanis Morrisette, Arcade Fire, Sloan, April Wine, Sarah McLachlan, Shawn Mendes, Metric, Loverbody, Streetheart, Barenaked Ladies, Anne Murray, Nelly furtado, Bruce Cockburn, Tate McRae, Michael Buble, Diana Krall, Blue Rodeo, Deadmau5, Avril Lavigne, Paul Shaffer and I don't know how many more that aren't coming off the top of my head right now. lol
