Hockey is a rough sport and the tough fight back and win, the sissies don't and lose. Did any of you see the movie "Rocket: The Story of Maurice Richard"? He would have laughed at you guys. They tried to get tough with him, and Rocket went out and kicked some ass. Too much whining about the refs in this thread, your boys just need to go out and be tough.

It is fundamental in any sport that good coaches will make adjustments to how a game is being officiated. Those who fail to make appropriate adjustments, lose.

The thing is E.B., that there is a rulebook and it should be applied to BOTH teams.I don't want to sound too impartial, but so far the Habs had'nt got the same breaks as Carolina.
And don't expect Gainey to send any of is players to do the dirty deeds.
Yes I saw the Rocket movie, and although I agree with you about courage and determination, there's nothing a good player or coach can do about a puck that hits the goal post and then rebounds in the back of a defencemen to hit the net.
Crashing into the opponent's goalie isn't allowed as far as I know,so is high sticking.
And just don't expect Gainey to retaliate, like I said.
The Habs played well enough. They should have already won that serie.
Oh and by the way, hockey is a rough sport,I agree.
But high sticking and running the opponents goalie isn't rough and tough,it's dirty-cheap shot.

Although last night's Canes-Canadiens game was not televised where I live in the USA, I was able to watch much of the 3rd period because Doc Holliday, who lives in Canada where the game was televised, while in chat pointed his webcam at his TV set. I was able to see his TV through the webcam pretty clearly. I was treated to some very weak play by Montreal, and some dumb penalties including a goaltender interference penalty.

It occurred to me that in the future as these webcams become even more sophisticated, bootleggers will be able to broadcast TV events to all their of friends via webcam. With pay per view events, private webcam telecasts may become common.

It appears to me that Montreal is done in this series.

nah, we will win game 6 in Montreal, no doubt in my mind! The question is game 7! And I think we have an advantage seeing how most of our players have played game 7s, and not them!

Montreal will win!

Bar to watch tomorrow's game

Well tomorrow I'm not as lucky as last Friday, I don't have tickets to the game. I'm looking for a Bar other than "La Cage aux sports" to watch the game. Anyone from Montreal will know what I'm talking about. Any suggestions?

Its Over

Habs had a good run but lost in second minute of overtime. They're out for the year. There's always next year - hopefully the whole team shows up for the whole season. They have some good young players and some strong veterans so could be interesting. Plus they should have a strong goaltending duo and solid coaching staff- -still think New Jersey is the team to beat this year. Until next year...

All the games they lost were 1 goal games,2 in ot.:(
Could've gone on either sides. They just couldn't get the breaks.
The decisive game was the third one. They injured our captain and had a few breaks that changed the whole serie.
Too bad.it would have been nice to face the Sens in round two.
BUT.
They need some power upfront. They clearly weren't strong enough along the boards and in front of the net.
Maybe Bertuzzi?
Anyway,I Know it maybe too soon for a clean up,but I think Ribeiro,Bonk,Bulis,Sundstrom and even Zednik are all dispensable....

What kind of a dumb defenceman sticks his stick in front of a slapshot from fifty feet out? Huet had that all the way. Anyways, the Habs deserve to lose this series. Carolina needs all their strength to face the Devils.

Cosmo, I agree with al of those names u listed, except Bonk. He turned it up in the last 1/3 of the season and the playoffs, even though he took a dump late penalty in Game 5. I'd like to see him back!

Huet

gets my vote as the team MVP. IMO, he had a great series. He played well enough to give the team plenty of chances to win. It's amazing how many shots on breakaways were blocked by the guy. Huet is a free agent this offseason so Bob Gainey, if you read MERB to take the edge off your intense profession, please, please call Huet's agent tomorrow and negotiate a long-term contract for Huet ;) !

NL,

I gotta disagree with you on Bonk. He should be shopped. The reason why the Habs got him nearly two years ago was because then coach Julien believed they needed a big guy at center to counter the likes of Primeau of the Flyers (who's still recovering from concussions) and Sundin of the Leafs. But that was two years ago, pre-strike and pre-new NHL rules which now favor smaller and faster front lines. All you have to do is look at how NJ and Buffalo are doing in the playoffs. Both teams have very quick but smaller guys upfront like Gionta and Drury and are well suited for the new NHL style. So, if I were Gainey and Carbonneau, I'd dump Bonk and shop around for smaller and quicker guys to complement Kovalev.

Huet signed!

Huet was clearly the top offseason priority for Gainey and the 2-year deal was announced today. No financial details announced as is customary with the Habs but apparently the negotiations went pretty smoothly so I'd have to think that Huet got his fair market value.

I think its 3 million this year and 2.75 next year, anyway doesn't matter when is Gainey going to put a package together for Vincent Lecavalier for f**ks sake!

Tampa has no goalie and Cap trouble - send them Aebischer and who ever else they want (Koivu included) just get him here like yesterday already.

If I was Tampa's GM, I would prefere to keep Lecavalier and Brad Richards and trade St-Louis for a goaller but that's me, not them.

It would surprise me too but stranger things have happened - St.Louis is going to be tough to trade because of the ridiculous contract Tampa gave him, he is BY FAR the weakest of the 3 (Lecavalier/Richards/St.Louis) so based on the dumb decision to give him the huge contract maybe we'll get lucky and hope for another dumb move by Tampa. You aren't going to get much for St.Louis these days he is a Cap Killer.

On the Lecavalier deal, granted Tampa aren't going to trade him for only a goalie whoever gets him (if anybody) will also have to throw in some other guys - In my opinion Aebischer, Biron, Denis, and Nabokov are all in the same group, it will come down to whoever is willing to give up better players in the package. If it happens at all that is.

spin,

Montreal cannot afford Lecavalier, (financially or trading of multiple players for him) there is no upside to getting him. Just because Montreal fills the Bell Center every night don't take that to mean that they are financially secure, they're far from it. They pay the highest property taxes of any team in the NHL. That combined with very little broadcast revenue generated as compared to Toronto & the other bigger hockey markets south of the border, doesn't allow them the $ flexibility to grab the highest echelon free agents

If George Gillett was able to pay himself a $70-75 million dividend the money is there.
