Why does the Crown keep bringing in witnesses that only hurt their cause? I have never seen anything like this, this is borderline malpractice
It’s now fairly obvious why: they have a very weak case & this case would never have been prosecuted in many other provinces other than in Ontario because as many legal minds following have pointed out this particular case likely didn’t even have a 50% chance of being a winning one. The thing about the prosecution’s witnesses is that each one they presented was even worse than the previous one! Why did they keep bringing in witnesses who hurt their cause? Because it’s such a weak case that this is the best they could come up with! And tomorrow we’ll see what happens with that mystery witness they just came up with in the final hour. The defence is correct in protesting this move because they haven’t had time to prepare for this witness however the way this trial has been trending for them maybe they should welcome as many mystery witnesses as the prosecution wants! LolWhy does the Crown keep bringing in witnesses that only hurt their cause? I have never seen anything like this, this is borderline malpractice
I am not sure I agree with you on this. They don't deserve to go to jail. But I do not believe they have any entitlement to be able to play pro hockey, as you do. Let them get real jobs in the real world, which if they are acquitted, all of them will be able to do and then move on with their lives. They made a dumb decision, and there should be some consequences from that. Has it occurred to any of you guys that when you are representing your country at an international competition, maybe you shouldn't be out late at night drinking and having sex but instead should have some curfew? If I was in charge of that sorry ass crew of spoiled brats, they would not be allowed out past 10 pm, there would be a no drinking rule and a code of conduct as well as a dress code for the duration of the competition. And they would be up at 6 am every morning for a film session. All of which would have taught them respect, discipline and self-control. Nobody has commented on the lack of a curfew that might have prevented this incident, and it's a sorry and pathetic commentary on where we are as a society that we now believe athletes are entitled creatures. No they are not!!!! They aren't entitled to anything.Anyways i still think it’s a damn shame that these young hockey players have had their once promising hockey careers ruined because of this case which never should have been prosecuted in the first place.
The alleged crime happened months after they won the tournament, in the summer during the offseason. No reason to have a curfewI am not sure I agree with you on this. So what you’re telling is that you really haven’t been following the trial.I thought this occurred during the competition, I thought I read something about a "team hotel"?
No. The tournament itself started as usual on December 26, 2017 & ended on January 5, 2017 in Buffalo, NY. The former teammates hadn’t been together in 5 months & that weekend in June was a team reunion. No different than a high school reunion. I was in the London area at the time & several times that same year & the one after that & there aren’t many top hotels in the city. The Delta London Armories is one of the most popular ones & it’s also located right downtown. I’ve stayed there several times including around the time these events happened. That’s the best place to stay at of you want to be walking distance from the top bars in the area. I’ve also stayed at the BW Lamplighter Inn which is right across from the main hospital but quite a distance from the downtown area. I like it better than the one the players stayed at but like i said it’s far from the downtown nightlife. The arena where the London Knights play at (known as Budweiser Gardens at the time) is also walking distance from the Delta London Armories. I attended several games when i was in the area. I remember defenceman Evan Bouchard looking like Bobby Orr out there on the ice & many predicting he’d be a star once he’d join the Edmonton Oilers. They were correct!I thought this occurred during the competition, I thought I read something about a "team hotel"?
I have a lot of sympathy for the players and none for the accuser. The accuser got paid off by Hockey Canada as a result of a civil suit even though it is now clear that she invited (not just consented to!) the sexual acts. As a result of what happened, the players had their careers ruined unjustly. . The players earned the their careers in hockey through their talent and hard work and they were entitled to follow their careers without being unjustly accused of a crime and so lose their jobs. Eager, would you like it if you were arrested, tried and disbarred because one of your sugar babies falsely accused you of sexual assault?...But I do not believe they have any entitlement to be able to play pro hockey, as you do. Let them get real jobs in the real world, which if they are acquitted, all of them will be able to do and then move on with their lives. I feel the exact same way. But although she got paid off by Hockey Canada earlier on you somewhat have to feel sorry for the woman because:I have a lot of sympathy for the players and none for the accuser. No matter what the result of the trial (and I am sure that it will be a not guilty ruling), the girl escapes with no consequences and maintains her anonymity and the cash from the civil settlement (she did not even have to go through a trial for that cash).
