Hotels and the Club Floor Issue...

Gentlemen, Ladies --

I have a question regarding a proper choice of a hotel for an upcoming trip to Montreal.


- Do the hotels with club floors NOT serve one well, for having SPs visit?


I prefer to stay at club levels in my travels. However, I don't know if there are any issues with having to accompany the ladies up from the lobby, or more hassles like taking 2 elevators, or even having the ladies consider it a hassle. It would be great if no special effort was involved for the ladies or myself, just hit the floor button and there you are.

I am fond particularly of Sheraton's club floors in the U.S. and abroad, and this is the hotel currently in my mind for Montreal (Le Centre Sheraton).

I'd rather go with a club floor, even if I have to meet the lady downstairs and walk her up -- but is this the extent of the hassle I face?

Chef, John -- your responses were a double shot of knowledge, exactly what I needed to make a decision.

Ladies in some other places sometimes *prefer* that the client walk them downstairs after the meeting, and see them off (For any number of reasons).

How does it work in Montreal, with the mid-to-high level agency ladies?

Important to know this, because when not expected, ladies might be caught a bit off guard. and vice-versa.

I've stayed at the Delta Mtl (on President Kennedy Ave.) many times and i prefer the club floors. What i do when i'm receiving a 'guest' is to tell the girl or girls to meet me on the 20th floor, which is the closest floor accessible to the club floors without a room key required. There have been a few occasions where the elevator would still go to the club floors without the room key, however.

As for the Vogue, i'd either tell the girl to meet me on the 2nd floor (no room key required to access that floor and/or the girl can simply walk up the staircase on the right) or she'd go to the front desk and they'd give me a call to make sure it's okay to let her go up to my floor.

p.s. Dina on BT (City TV) is extremely hot!

Just a quick update, I ended up choosing the Le Centre Sheraton's Club Floors (for part of my stay) and there were no problems with having a non-hotel Guest come up, as everyone has accurately stated already.

Incidentally, the Club Floor rooms are not worth the major upgrade cost, unless you are getting a free upgrade through your Starwoods Gold/Platinum membership. The only real benefits to the Club Rooms are:

- Access to the Club Lounge
- A more polished lobby and room appearance. You can tell you are on the Club Levels even as soon as you get out of the elevantor, as the ceilings appear higher and decorations are more dramatic and clearly intended to give a guest the idea that they have reached the 'Executive" world & those with generous expense accounts. That may or may not work in your favor with an SP.

I also found the Sheraton to be the best hotel among all the leading chain brands in Montreal. I viewed most of them in person through the course of meetings, and noticed that ALL of the major chain hotels in Montreal need updating of the decor, including the Sheraton.

I think it's because most of these hotels did their renovations 1 year too EARLY, and most other properties of the Sheratons/Omnis/Marriotts/Hiltons did their renovations more in timely step with the changing decors worldwide.

The Sheraton was the best because:

- location - close to everything for the most part. this was very convenient, esp when you start going around town
- easy access for taxis, guests, close to airports, etc.
- the room was warm & spacious (not large) but not small. There was a "walking around" area next the window and work desk, which made it feel comfortable, even with an additional guest in the room.
- high floor views
- nice swimming pool, with massage services, with a sauna, with a jacuzzi.
- very friendly and timely hotel service, with a cast of characters it seems working the phones. Always interesting and definitely 4* service levels.

Very good choice of a hotel in my opinion, esp considering very few of the other leading chain properties do not offer the combinations of benefits.

(a pay-for-upgrade to the Club Level may be worth it if you got a Priceline/Hotiwre price room at the Sheraton, and pay the $50-$80 upgrade fee per night to get a Club floor room. Is this possible?)
