Seeing as how check in at hotels is usually at 3 do you think I would be
allowed to use the pool if I register for my room but its not check in time yet?
Good question, answer is it probably depends on the hotel. They will want to take your credit card info probably before they give you pool access, in case you decide to be a towel thief.
Let me tell you what happened to me at the Holiday Inn. After I checked in, I went up to my room and changed into my bathing suit, went swimming and then I realized I had left my room key in my room. I was forced to go down to the lobby dripping wet in my bathing suit with a towel wrapped around me (not as bad as locking myself out of my room in my underwear at the Delta, but still very embarrassing).
I asked the front desk for another key, and gave them my room number. They told me they could not give me another key without photo ID. I then explained I had left my wallet and ID in my room while I went for a swim. They then told me I would have to wait for a security guard to come up and meet me at my room. It was suggested to me that rather than standing around the lobby in my bathing suit and dripping water on the floor of the lobby, I should go up to my room and wait for the security guard in front of the door. The security guard then came less than 5 minutes later, opened up my room and when I showed him my ID, he left me alone.
I would definitely recommend the Holiday Inn Midtown for the pool, but it is not a nice hotel. Very average 2.5 star type accomodations. However, the pool was not only big, but also there were only a few other people in it and I was able to swim laps unimpeded for 45 minutes, on 3 different days. I don't know what the hours are but I took my swims late afternoons, before getting ready for dinner. I love a good long swim before dinner.
