- Ive written a long winded 13 page comparison of Phosphodiesterase Inhibitors but its quite technical and pretty dry reading. Ive condensed some of it here for those that may want to know a little more about the options available to them.
THE TREATMENT OF ERECTILE DISFUNCTION USING PENILE STIMULANTS
PHYSIOLOGY
The erection of the human penis involves the relaxation of the smooth muscles in an organ called the corpus cavernosum, resulting in an increase in blood flow to the organ. The corpus cavernosum then expands under the pressure of the blood flow and causes the penis to enlarge and become rigid, producing an erection. When the mechanisms involved in the relaxation of the smooth muscles of the corpus cavernosum are impaired, impotence results. This condition is also called erectile disfunction.
PHARMACOLOGY
Three drugs have been designed to increase and maintain blood volume levels in the corpus cavernosum, through inhibition of the enzyme phoshodiesterase. The first of its kind was Sildenafil, a drug produced by drug company Pfizer in 1998. The drug company Eli Lilly has recently introduced Tadalafil, or more commonly reffered to as Cialis. The third, eRex (erexpill) is the result of homeopathic doctors working on a capsule that would mimic the result of both these proven manufacturers. Over time eRex has evolved into an alternative herbal medication that mimics the results and benefits of Cialis. All drugs are contrived from natural resources, however its the measurement of these in even the smallest of increments that ultimately decide in the potency and effectiveness of eRex. Also worth mention is a fourth drug in this class called Vardenafil by parent company Bayer AG, however it has not yet been introduced to the market.
COMPARISON & SIDE EFFECTS
Individuals with pre-existing cardiovascular disease for whom sexual activity is dangerous should avoid the above mentioned stimulants. It is thought that organic nitrate medications produce an additive effect on blood pressure, and their is a risk of life threatening hypotension when Sildenafil (Viagra), Tadalafil (Cialis) and eRex are used in conjuntion with medications containing nitrates.
When using the stimulants mentioned it is possible a number of side-effects can occur such as: headache, flushing of the face, neck and chest area, as well as dyspepsia (stomach pain), and nasal congestion. Documented reports show that users of Sildenafil (Viagra) experienced a higher incidence of headache, flushing, stomach pain and temporary abnormal vision, than those of Tadalafil (Cialis/eRex). Both Cialis & eRex target different enzymes than that of Viagra which in turn has less of an impact on blood pressure (headaches) as well as allowing the individual to administer the stimulant on an empty stomach, therefore avoiding stomach discomfort usually associated with users of Viagra. When taken for the treatment of erectile disfunction and in the absence of contraindications mentioned, these drugs are extremely safe and effective provided they are taken under proper conditions and suitable dosages.
Personal experiences with the stimulants discussed is that they all improved my ability to aquire an erection, but its real benefit was in its effect on maintaining an erection. Usually the quality of an erection ebbs & flows, but with all stimulants I found it enabled me to maintain a high quality erection almost indefinately. I found that they also help control premature ejaculation. I did experience side-effects using all three but found the headache, flushing of the face, and nasal congestion more prevalent and pronounced with the Sildenafil (Viagra) than both that of Cialis and eRex. A distinct advantage of both Cialis and eRex over Viagra is its effectiveness over elapsed time. The half-life of Cialis & eRex is more than three times longer than that of Viagra, meaning the ability to achieve and maintain an erection is available to the user for a much more distinct period of time.
Hopefully this short report will shed some light on erectile disfunction and the options available to the general public without getting too technical and confusing.
