This guy was an unsung hero for the Habs this season IMO. Yet I feel there is little to no appreciation for him within the organization.

Carey Price is far more skilled then Halak, more than most goaltenders in the world. He has the size, the movement and the reflexes of a world class goaltender. From the juniors on, he has shown flashes or brilliance, glimpses of a hall of fame career. But goaltending is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately business and Price has shatthe bed time and time again since last years playoffs. He's the alleged goaltender of the future in Montreal but has yet to deliver when they really need it. He just can't seem to take the pressure of playing in the city of Montreal. Some say the fans are too hard on him, but what do you expect??? Montreal has produced many hall of fame goaltenders, the standard is high. The fact is that you have to WANT to play in Montreal. You want that pressure. its what keepds you on your game. Price doesn't seem to be able to hack it mentally.

halak, on the other hand has been in his fair share of Pressure situations and has stepped up. Two years ago when they were fighting for a playoff spot, Halak stepped up and nearly got them in the playoffs. Earlier this year at home against the Canucks and Roberto Luongo out goaltended him in a 3-0 win where he stopped 40+ shots. Halak didn't have the best numbers this season ( 34 GP 18-14-1 2.86 GAA .915 sv%) but was far more steady and even keeled. He was able to spark winning streaks for the team with his play and I felt that the team was more confident with him between the pipes.
So why did they not the start the playoffs with him???

With the way the team was playing in front of him it may not make any difference but don't you think he deserves a shot at the number 1 job in Montreal. I think he has more than paid his dues. He wants to be there, I don't think Price does. He doesn't have the steel to do it, not many do.
He may not be the goaltender of the future but he could be the goaltender of the now. I think he deserves his due.

You are absolutely right.
Let's not forget that he is also a young goaltender (he is 23, Price is 21).
He has shown signs of being much more mature than Price and a hell of a lot more smarter play as well.

Gainey should give the poor guy a chance. He should have been in nets for Game 3. I have no idea why Gainey went with Price.

Price needs to be sent back to the Bulldogs for additional training and to fine tune his game. I would open up next season with Halak in nets plus a vet to back him up if we can get one in the offseason.

People always say Price is the futur, but is he the futur of Montreal? Im starting to doubt. For the moment the guy seem to prefer to party and drink than playing in the NHL. HE EVEN PLAYED A GAME DRUNK !!

So i would say keeping him for now would be the best thing, but as #2, and when he mature up, let him get the #1 spot again. Because if the organisation and himself keep going this way, he will be out of montreal in no time.

I don't understand all this whining about Price. He's 21. Trade Halak and get a veteran backup who can help Price.

... should consider giving credit to the Bruins, a well-balanced, talented and very well coached team if there is one. They took advantage of the Habs' subpar backchecking and loss of the only two defensemen capable of putting the puck on the tape coming out of the zone. Boston, on the other hand, were pretty much always ''on the fly''.

Through the four games, speedsters like Phil Kessel and Marc Savard had 30 to 40 feet long corridors to accelerate unchecked with Habs defensemen backing up 10 to 20 feet behind their blue line.

I don't know how many of you are playing or have played goalie but when the other team enjoys so much space coming into your zone, that's draining, I don't care how good the goalie is.

Frankly, I don't see how the Habs could have done better with Halak in nets. Boston was simply too strong and better coached. As a matter of fact, I don't think the Habs could have won this serie even with prime Patrick Roy in nets.

I' m not JUST talking playoffs, I'm talking the whole season. Halak played at or above his potential most of the year, Price was sub par most of the season. Goaltending isn't about what have you done for me, its what have you done for me lately. If it were, J.S. Gigurere would be playing net for the Ducks right now. Gainey continually went to a goaltender who wasn't performing, giving him opportunity after opportunity to step up and he didn't, he didn't all year. He's a RFA and despite all this, I still think he should be re-signed, for a short-term at a reduced rate (Say 3 years at MAYBE $3 million a year, I wouldn't pay more than $2.5 a season and he'll be lucky to get that).

Let's be fair: Sure, Halak can outplay Price but I bet Price can outdrink Halak.

Don't remember where my cousin saw it, but there was a game where he look dizzy at some parts, having trouble covering the puck, then the day after at the gym my cousin was making jokes about him looking drunk. 2 days after that he came back to me saying he readed it or saw it on tv, can't remember, that he was actually drunk. Maybe not drunk to the point of puking, but what we would call in french "pompette" or "rechauffer"

There is plenty of picture of him puking at some website after a "grosse criss de brosse"

On the other subject, giving credit to the bruins...arg never i would do that. Boston-Marde sucks :p

You're referring to a game in Edmonton a couple of months ago. He got caught out of position a few times & let in some bad goals. Jean Perron mentionned on 110% that he looked drunk. But that's it. HE LOOKED DRUNK. There's absolutely no proof whatsoever that he was drunk. He just looked like he was drunk. It was an exaggeration in order to make a point. Big difference.

Maybe, like i said my cousin said that to me, if you say it comes from 100% then its probably where my cousin saw it cause he watch it sometimes, maybe he misheard the guy, cause most of the time he work at the same time he watch hockey and the show after (he work at home doing spanish-french traduction)

Anyway point is the picture of him partying are true, and even if the guy have the right to have a life, he should be a little more cautious, since he is paid millions to do his job. I like to party on friday night, i usually always get drunk that night, but if i would play a hockey game on saturday night and be paid what he is paid, i would be more carefull.

Yes, he should. Whoever becomes the new coach for the Habs has to keep that team on a very, VERY short leash. They really dropped the ball not hiring Tortorella, who would have thrived asa coach in this market. Torts competes and asks his players to do the same. I think guys like Callahan and Dubinsky liked playing for him, as was reflected in strong playoff performances.

Torts would be perfect for Montreal. He wouldn't put up with the overpaid, lazy pricks on the team, and he'd be a media darling. The fans would slowly fall for him, and the hard-working players who want to earn their paycheque would respect him & be willing to go to battle for & behind him. But.....

TORTS DON'T SPEAK FRENCH.
