My candidate for the "Ultimate Junk Food" ...
...two words : 'White Castle'.
Do they have 'White Castle' burgers in Canada anywhere? Toronto, maybe?
They've gone corporate in the last decade or so, so they're starting to pop up in all kinds of places. But the original family that owned it would only open up restaurants in traditional "blue collar", working-class neighborhoods. By the late '70's - early 80's that term became synonymous with "ghetto".
So you not only have to survive the food itself, but also the trip to go out & get it! Sad to say but I lived in a neighborhood that had, not just one but, two 'White Castles' nearby. If that doesn't qualify as "the 'hood" then I don't know what does. (actually I do know - it's KFC, which Quebecers know as PFK, ... but that's another story for another day

They're real small, maybe 2" x 2" (5 or 6 cm). Some people call little burgers 'sliders' because you can you can eat them in one bite and they 'slide' down easy (slide out easy, too, I might add - D'oh!).
So anyway - for those who have never had the experience - you can imagine the taste like this : take two slices of 'Wonder' bread, add chopped onions that have been sauteed in grease, one slice of pickle, and some ketchup. Then steam them all together till it's really soggy. (Meat is optional.) It tastes just like that ... how do I know? Me & my friends tried doing this one time with only those ingredients and it tasted just like 'White Castles' - that tells you how good their alleged "meat" is!
But somehow the effects of alcohol consumption combine somewhere inside the brain and interact dangerously with the same 'pleasure receptors' that make you want to eat 'White Castles'. So, on any given Friday or Saturday night / wee hours of the next morning, the place is guaranteed to be packed full of some of the funniest, drunkest individuals you'll ever meet.
The experience of going there is almost as good as the 'murder burgers' they serve.
