I don't understand why, in an age when all the money in the music business comes from live performance, someone needs to be hired to perform a lip psynching concert, which then goes badly awry with technical difficulties, causing the artist to walk off the stage in disgust. Who really wants to see it? I realize it's a liquored up crowd that wants to have some music, but is this the best they can do even in cold weather?

Look behind you.
Many of these so called performers have no talent hence the need for lip sync. I used to watch the voice with my daughter and during a set Shakira had to lip sync, uber hot but can not match her recordings live.
Shania Twain is another example, seen her at the Calgary Stampede and was not impressed.
A good studio sound person and live sound tech does wonders for the less talented hype stars.

Such a shame that her voice is all but gone..she was definitely one of the greatest singers of my generation. I've been told by other singers that the way she sang so high all the time was the main reason why her voice isn't what it used to be.

The intention was to have some of the performance lip synched and other parts sung live. I don't think Mariah's voice is nearly what it used to be. Can't remember the last time she even did a concert or released an album.
Her claims that their were technical difficulties is bogus. Her backup dancers were in rhythm. The truth is she didn't properly rehearse and when it came time to deliver she dropped the ball.

It cracks me up that the New York Times, among many news sources, is taking this so seriously. As in: what REALLY happened? What's at stake? What does Donald Trump have to tweet about it?
