The meetups worked out well for me. It gave me an opportunity to see the girls I wanted to later schedule an appointment with.

But, for the most part I go to Montreal to meet girls and not guys so I didn’t have much interest in going to these regularly.

Well yes, of course they do. During the screening process for some SPs guys happily give them their real names, addresses, birthdates and photos when they send copies of their government ID. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to get the rest from that, provided the guy has an online presence at all. For the life of me I can't understand why some men are willing to do that, having absolutely no idea what happens to their info afterwards.
Not sure about the validity of what you said.
I have not seen any indy who ask for that info

@Flyingby Well technically it was actually a major failure last time lol. Not sure if you were joking (irony) but it really didn't worked out. That said, to my defense, as i mentioned many times it started more as a "who want to hang with me that night for a few hours" and really grew faster than anticipated. My intention at the start was not to make a "true GT" of old or anything. It was just to meet a few fellow merbites. I supose in that regard it kinda work as i did meet a few new guys but anyway i digress.
No irony @Halloween Mike.
i was being sincere
You took the time to try and organize it
Some ladies showed up
Hats off to you for that

They absolutely do. Even on this site, with the relatively small number of ladies that post there are those who request screening info. It should be easy enough to find with a search. That's not including what may be shared between ladies when providing verbal references. While I believe that most ladies are ethical and don't misuse info nobody really knows what happens to it once it's out there. I have no doubt whatsoever that some ladies indulge their curiousity to learn more about their clients/prospective clients

Back in the day, MERB get togethers were a regular thing, but over time, they've pretty much faded out. Sure, it takes a bit of effort, but it’s definitely doable. You just start a thread, book a bar or restaurant, get a couple of agency owners and Indies on board to host, and boom you're set.

What I loved about those meet ups was how so many members would show up, but nobody wanted to mention their MERB handles especially the loud ones. It was always pretty funny. Honestly, if something like that happens again, I'm in.
This sounds fun :)

Needs some other element... murder mystery, white elephant, trivia....

I don't want to organize but I'm intrigued.

I remember at one of the gt they had an intermission where a somewhat known pornstar performed a solo show for the audience. It was no different than what you’d see at a strip club when a stripper does her stage show. While watching the show an indy (whom i had seen twice) who often attended these gt walked over to me & joked “Hey Doc you don’t feel like joining her up there & be part of her show?” I chuckled & told her “no thank you”. Later this got me thinking that this may be an interesting idea to consider bringing up to the then organizers for an upcoming gt: have a live sex show with two (or more) of the attendees either during an intermission or if it needs more privacy have it in one of the rooms upstairs (if it’s held at a hotel bar or lobby) and those who’d want to come & watch could for a fee. Or hold a raffle where interested participants get to buy a ticket & the lucky (or unlucky) winner gets the honor of entertaining a group of voyeurs with a lady who had already pre-agreed to be part of the main event that evening. I know I’ve already been told that i have a wild imagination! Lol

But not everyone had them in their back pocket ( or as a single device the iPhone was introduced in 2007 and for a long time it was the only game in town and data plan were not cheap ) or felt the need to stream whatever he is doing 24/7.
No one back in those days would have taken a picture of whatever was happening at those events to post it online for everyone to see. If I remember correctly there was a strict no picture policy . Nowadays with the younger generation (not all of them ) preventing that from happening would be very hard ...
These issues were not issues at the GTs I went to (many) from 2005 to 2019 which also included a number of agency parties. In addition to industry GTs, Good Girls had a number of parties, Celine's Fantasies had a few parties I went to, Montreal Girfriends had a Halloween party, Eleganza had a party and I went to at least one XO party. Devilish also had parties. I don't remember any issues along the lines you mentioned. Last party I went to was an MP party in 2019.

As HM mentioned, everyone had cellphones all during this era. Let's not start creating revisionist histories.

The issues that came up were: (1) excessive noise complaint at Good Girls party (I somehow got assigned the task of defusing the complaint with the complainants- which was a little uncomfortable but not a biggie); (2) lurkers/curious uninvited participants (generally harmless); (3) rough sex complaint against a party invitee at one of GG parties (result was invitee was banned by Iggy).

I can't think of any privacy invasion issues. Basically everyone is in this together and everyone knows it's a two way street on privacy. So bringing up these issues, (1) is not in accordance with the reality of numerous (probably at least 20) industry and agency GTs I attended, and (2) represents prototype paranoid thinking. We really need to stick with the concept of reality here. The reality is if these issues were issues then the parties never would have kept happening and gotten bigger and bigger as they did. Ask Halloween Mike. He lived the history of at least the Iggy portion of it, just like I did.

I am leaning with @Marsouin on this issue
@EagerBeaver You can wear Rayban glasses today and take pictures or film everyone. Was much harder a few years ago

Add reverse search and within seconds you have the person’s real name and facebook profile.
The risk versus reward is not a good ratio

It was 2014 and such ... by then lot of peoples had good phones. As you say yourself there was a no picture policy and everybody respected that because they didn't wanted to be kicked out and left out the guest list for the next one. I have no doubt this could still be enforced easily. If i learned anything in this business its that clients are as much, if not more, obsessed about privacy than the escorts themselves.

It's a lot of work, you need a coalition of the willing, and it doesn't happen for free, so you need to consider where the money is coming from and how much. Not to put too fine a point on it, but these types of things usually have a selected guest list as opposed to being open events too. All to say that there's a bunch of things to consider and a lot of organization that needs to happen, so if you're looking to do one then be prepared to invest a lot of frustrating time and effort

Iggy did yeoman’s work back then, setting up multiple parties. As you said, lots of frustrating work. Hope he’s well, wherever he is these days.

But then you don’t want to meet Obvio in person and ask all your PM questions in the flesh??? Ahahahahaha. ;)

What part of the planning you're missing is, a portion of the door price for the gentleman guests, turns into donations to attract providers to make an appearance.

This is where if an agency throws the party, their providers profit from the event, and so does the agency.

But providers have busy schedules, and often are not going out just for the sake of going out. They will prioritize a sure paid visit over attending an event for free, even if it will better their business.

Unless in the planning stage, you have prepared a fund for donating to the time of the providers, you might not have any who prioritize the public get-together, over a paid job instead.

Just my POV.

I'd be willing to go to an event like this for free, if I knew there was a chance of getting clients, and if I knew people would behave in respectful ways, but I'm not so sure that the people who would show up would be interested... And it's like you're saying, most providers wouldn't show up if there was no compensation

I said it more as a reality point to the thread and what is being asked to be planned.

I might chose to go to something like this just out of curiosity. But from what I have come to understand of events like this. Part of the cover charge at the door goes twords incentive also for providers to make an appearance, even if it isn't much. It takes time out of their day they would be available for others, with no guarantee of securing further earnings that night.

The providers at these events don't just happen to show up unexpectedly. Maybe, but I highly doubt it. If it is just for exposure, without any compensation, this type of event is likely to just become a sausage fest with maybe 5 providers making an appearance.

Fair point.
I think each type of participants have their own objective:
- Indys get to know new clients
- Agencies get to find clients
- clients get to see IRL providers, get to know them, mingle with other merbists.

The latter maybe being the least interesting for the first 2.

I was subtly trying to point out the fact that I don't think any of the gentlemen who would show up at a meeting like this will want to book me... They already would have.

Everything you're saying is accurate. I wouldn't go to a meeting with potential clients unless I knew more providers were coming, which would bring clients who are outside of this group.. which won't happen without compensation

Although attendees did pay a door fee for the Iggy parties, I am not sure if any of that money went to the providers who attended. My recollection is it was around $40-$50.

Also, most of the providers who attended made appearances, meaning they did not "take the night off." I assume they came before, after or between appointments. They stayed long enough to make greetings and be seen, and maybe have one drink. This is what the reality of these events was. Some came early and some came late. In some cases I arrived late or left early and "missed" people as a result, including one lady who was actually looking for me. I had told her I was going to be there and I was, but towards the end of the event at around 11:30 I got very hungry and went to the Boustan down the road at the recommendation of Doc Holliday. And ordered a shawarma. After that I was tired and went back to my hotel room. I heard the next day that the agency SP had shown up looking for me. I felt badly, but I was there for over 3 hours and left towards the end of the event.

Another time when Iggy was inviting MPs I missed an MP lady who came early with her MP and then they left. I heard about her and later booked a meeting with her. She was only there for probably less than a half hour, but I missed her due to seeing an Indy right before the party start time.

I would go for sure because it would be a friendly way to meet in real life without expectations
For sure a win-win gathering !!
