You are so wrong. I started as a VMS System Admin. Then Unix System Admin. Now Windows System Admin. I've written device drivers for the first two.
Linux is a good operating system. But its not ready for the masses. It is getting better but you still have to jump through hoops to get to work right. I can't remember how many times I've had to rebuild kernels and reboot just to get XFree86 working. Without X, where is your precious kde or gnome? Nowhere. And getting sound to work is even worse. Not to mention that recent versions are so locked down for security reasons that getting networking running can sometimes be a chore for those that know what they are doing. For those that don't forget-about-it.
If it works for you, fine. Just don't push it on the common computer user who won't be able to figure it out.
