We all knew Codere wanted to shut down the massage places. What about the new administration? Do we know if they're going to start a John hunt, or put pressure on the strip club or massage places? Has the new mayor said anything on this during the campaign?

There is some post on that subject in this thread:
https://merb.cc/vbulletin/showthread.php?160948-Coderre-v-s-Plante&p=1093986#post1093986

The new party are much more leftist socialist then the Coderre party. Even tho their programme reveals not much and new mayor, to my knowledge, did not said anything on the subject, we should not expect for the better. A leftist-socialist mother of 3 kids who lives a dream fairty tale household life is not geared to tackle such a topic.

Cheers,

Look behind you.
The same cry came out when Harper passed bill C-36 and nothing happened.

Well, with C-36, enforcement is pretty much left to the various police dept. If they deem it a problem, they apply zealously, if not they close their eyes. It's a tool for them. We know how Coderre saw it, but now?

With the new election, new mayor wants to meet the chief of the police dept. Very likely he's going to be replaced. So with a new mayor, and potential new PD top gun, what's to expect?

Generally the leftist-socialist does not believe in incarceration or a rigid enforcement of the law but rather advocates addressing social problems through taxpayer funded programs that educate, reform and rehabilitate. Thus the Mayor and the presumptive new leftist police chief will be looking to put offenders into government subsidized rehab programs. The question is on what sector will LE resources be allocated. Usually the police chief communicates to the mayor what problems are least under control- opiate drug addiction, parking violations, etc. The Mayor will ask the new police chief and maybe the outgoing will be asked/interviewed as well. In a perfect world you throw money and resources at what the biggest LE problems are based on complaints from the public. I can’t imagine that enforcing C36 would be high on the agenda if nobody is complaining about it to the Chief Of Police.

I have had to deal with various municipal police chiefs in the USA as part of my job. I have had polite arguments with a few of them. One was on the matter of our respective interprations of the State Freedom of Information Act, and one of them had a dispute with me over traffic control. Here in the USA police chiefs have lots of power and autonomy and they set the LE agenda. It’s rare that a Mayor gets too involved although if a Mayor campaigns on a platform of cleaning up massage parlors one can expect the Chief will be on board with that agenda. That was the case some years ago in one Connecticut City.

Good question. The key player was Anie Sanson, vice-president of the executive committee. She lost her election and her party lost. She was very articulate on this issue and was the perfect link between the mayor and the SPVM. She opposed the closing of MP, just like the SPVM, and had her way dominate. So things cannot get better.

Some radical leaning feminists will certainly try to change things. However, I doubt they will succeed. Plante won essentially with the support of the NDP and Québec solidaire. Both parties have voted resolutions in favor of decriminalization even if there was solid opposition within each party. The good thing is that police ressource allocation is decided differently here as compared with what you see in the USA. Politics has little influence. So even if Plante wanted to go against logics, she would have a hard time convincing the SPVM. The main unknown is if the head of the SPVM will keep his job and, if not, who will be nominated.

Coderre was arrogant and tough he was "the boss" too much for my taste. He made questionable decisions on many subject. His arrogance was probably his downfall. But was he competent for the rest? Probably...

I fear Montreal is going with the devil they don't know instead of the devil they know there. Heard the new mayor share a lot of view with Quebec Solidaire, and that political party is very toxic...

Well, what worries me is all that noise and that hysteria about the pseudo "rape culture" that feminists are creating. Now, a man who has given an "undesired compliment" to a woman can be deemed to have harassed her and all of this is the same as raping her..... So I'm worried that politicians will want to be perceived as doing something about this and will hit the easy target, the professional sex industry. It is a well established fact that all women working in the sex industry are victims and are being raped multiple times daily by hordes of disgusting abusing men.

So, in a nutshell, I'm just worried about the knee jerk reaction of a new administration facing these pressure, an administration who is close to Québec Solidaire, the people who said they believed Alice Paquet's allegations, even though after a thorough investigations, the coppers didn't find anything to charge Sklavounos.

Did you grab her pussy/boobs/ass while paying her that compliment? If not, you probably don't have too much to worry about... society is still pretty lenient towards its' poorly socialized members...

I'm pretty sure they will continue to let consenting adults have sex however they want so long as they don't bother anyone. Prosecution of criminal offenses depends on the Ministère de la Justice and is not strictly a municipal matter. The new mayor might affect how the city deals with things like zoning of massage parlors or street work that disturbs the residents, but it's not going to change the priorities of criminal law enforcement. Also, compare with drug laws: heroin is a much bigger harm than prostitution and we have supervised injection clinics for users. Our society is starting to have a good understanding of harm reduction.

Easy going...
I think the best for hobbying really is that it stays the way it is, the sp is only looked at as the victim so they dont get into trouble, as far as hobbyists were also left alone as long as we use outcall, no minors, no trafficed women.
When the government starts putting thier hands in shit and starts overregulating shit, the product will go down, the prices will go up, think about rules being implemented by law such as cbj only! Then theyll want every sp to have a liscence or permit of some sort to escort which would have some yearly fee, plus the gov would want thier cut via taxes, all costs that would be passed on to us the hobbyists. This isnt the usual $20 hike either and the sp would see none of tbe extra, theyd have to raise rates JUST to make the same amount they did before, i dont see how legalization would benefit the girls or us, as for all intents and purposes the hobby is already legal sans SW and massage parlors.
As the saying goes, be careful for what you wish for, u might get it!

If there is no political currency in it for them politicians will not touch this subject. Coderre mentioned the massage salons on St. Hubert street before he got elected but did nothing during his term. The new mayoresses will not touch the subject unless she needs to come re-election time.
