Yea that was my first take. Articles like this suspicious one, by design, focus public attention on massage parlours. It could be the beginning of a new anti parlour campaign!?

The last 3 girls I saw on their 1st or 2nd day, they all had stories of at least 3-4 guys doing it. Just terrible.

I think this can revive a push against salons, providers, and clients.
But we can’t be seeing conspiracies everywhere. This guy likely did it and the story is interesting so no need sinister motivations to explain news
I bet the anti-salon reaction will be performative (just like they are targeting car theft now) and will pass once the crowd focuses on a new scandal.

But the police chief of Montreal has been in his role for about 12 months and one of his “accomplishments” in Longueuil was to run sting operations to bust John’s. coppers would then offer john the choice between attending “john school” (to teach them about just how awful it is to have this hobby) or face criminal charges. They busted hundreds of john’s in Longueuil and made the news one or two summers ago right before the F1.
i myself expect the spvm to launch this program so I try to stick as much as possible to well know establishements.

i dont know, Montreal is not Longueuil, we have much different priorities.
I view this as a good story for the industry, as the focus of the prosecution was this douchbag, not the sex industry. Despite their occupation, the police took the sws seriously and actually prosecuted and convicted the guy. The context was secondary. Kudos

From what I hear about police they have a hierarchy of investigation and don’t bring in lower stuff when dealing with a bigger issue. Sex abuse is pretty high up the list so they treat it as such and would not complicate it with sex work misdemeanours.
They also want victims to feel safe to report even when they were in the middle of a lesser crime (for ex getting robbed while buying drugs)
I looked into the conviction and be he was actually also convicted of 3 counts of paying for sex. Overall sentence will come out in March.
The sw were not accused obviously because selling sex in Canada is not a crime, buying sex is a crime. The owner/operator of the salon could have been accused but unclear if they have.
It is all about proof. If a guy buys tires and gets a leak into his tire 3 or 4 times, this certainly looks suspicious. How do you prove that he actually ripped the condom. He may be guilty, but it can not be absolutely be proven. I am sure his description is known by many salons now.

When it happens to multiple providers with the same client, it's not an accident anymore.
The judge must be convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that he is guilty, which was the case here. The story reads as if he did not have a lawyer. He would have had a better chance of acquittal had he been properly represented.
Edit: I obviously do not condone the act of intentionally breaking condoms.
