Mother, son plead guilty to running Montreal prostitution ring
28-year-old son sentenced to 16 more months in jail

CBC News

A Montreal family accused of running a prostitution ring involving girls as young as 15 pleaded guilty Thursday to a variety of charges.

A mother and her 28-year-old son answered to charges of prostitution, while a father pleaded guilty to drug trafficking.

Judge Jean-Pierre Boyer sentenced the son, James St-Cyr, to 16 more months in prison.

The sentence, handed down in a Montreal courtroom, takes into account the fact that St-Cyr has been in jail since his 2004 arrest. In total, he will be spending six years and four months behind bars.

His parents weren't sentenced Thursday.

Police said family members ran an operation out of their west-end home that involved more than two dozen women and girls.

St-Cyr, who faced 26 charges, admitted to pimping five girls under age 18 between 1999 and 2004. Other charges included living off the avails of prostitution, drug trafficking and assault.

His lawyer, Jean-Pierre Sharp, argued St-Cyr wasn't a street hustler. Sharp said St. Cyr had domestic relationships with the victims and that they loved him.

No women victims appear in court

Some of the women showed up at St-Cyr's 2004 bail hearing, blowing kisses at him and mouthing, "I love you."

None of the women were in court Thursday.

When Boyer handed down his sentence, he told the near-empty courtroom that St-Cyr needed to have perpetual control over his women. He had them get tattoos bearing his name, an action the judge compared to animal branding.

St-Cyr's mother, 55-year-old Marie-Louise Timeus, pleaded guilty to three counts of heading a prostitution ring.

His father, Raymond St-Cyr, admitting to drug possession with intent to traffic.

Another son in the family, 32-year-old Jean-Rony St-Cyr, was in court as well Thursday. He said he intends to plead guilty in April to pimping charges.

escort agency guidelines?

What are the guidelines of owning an escort agency in Montreal.

Do actual guidelines exist or is one supposed to be so versed in the subject that a personal guideline should exist?

Do we have anyone "so versed" here on merb, and how does someone become so versed as to know all of the guidelines or supposed guidelines?

I know my question is unrelated to the trouble detailed in the criminal case written about in GG'S CBC News article but I am sure (to many of us) it brings to mind what I have asked.

Domestic relationships with more than two dozen women and girls? Damn this was a very busy guy! He should have just started his own cult.

Does anyone know what agency they ran under, if any? Was this an incall operation? Were they a yellow pages/newspaper outfit?
