Look behind you.
The Oilers may have a decent second line with Hopkins and Neal.

RANTANEN and LAINE not close of signing new contracts their agent says.....both remain in Europe........IMHO AVS need more Rantanen than JETS need LAINE...he said he wants to play on the first line....seems the organisation does not appreciate such a comment....lol.

The young Maple Leafs right wing Yegor Korshkov has 2 goals against the Habs tonight. Is he going to make the Maple Leafs roster?

He has zero chance of making the roster. The players who played last night will play for the Marlies. Yes, the Marlies actually beat the Habs last night! People in Mtl are pissed!

Gaby said the Leafs played their regular roster and you said they played the Marlies roster. Which is it? Korshkov is listed in “Elite Hockey Prospects” and was selected #31 overall in the 2016 entry draft, the highest the team had ever selected any Russian player. He played in the KHL the last couple years and one must ask if he has been stashed in the KHL for development the last 2 years and now is in his age 23 season, is the Marlies not a step back? It would be like the Toronto Blue Jays signing a Japanese baseball player from the NPL and saying to him, “we don’t think the NPL is good enough and you are going to AAA for a few months.” Wouldn’t ever happen. And similarly how can the Leafs send him to a inferior league to the KHL for further development? Granted his stats in the KHL were not overwhelming, but with the kid being such a “elite prospect” and showing signs I would think he should have a good shot at making the roster. Plus don’t the Leafs need some good young cheap guys to balance the couple of high paid stars gobbling up payroll?

This isn’t your Uncle’s NHL. Good young cheap talent has great value even if it’s not fully developed and on the cusp.

Maybe Gabby was referring to the habs having their regular lineup. But trust me every single player who played last night will start the season with the Marlies. The Leafs will go with their likely full lineup tomorrow evening. Once again against the habs.

As for Korshkov he will start the season with the Marlies in order for him to show he can dominate their and prove he deserves a shot at NHL employment. The Leafs no longer rush their players to the NHL. And yes he was sent to the KHL for seasoning. He was a very late first rounder which means his chance of sticking with an NHL team isn’t great. Late first rounders in my book are pretty much second rounders. NHL is different than the NFL or MLB since the team rosters are considerably smaller.

By the way i don’t consider the KHL to be much of an upgrade over the AHL.

Panarin scored 2 more goals for the Rangers tonight. He is going to be really good! A big upgrade for the Rangers along with Kaapo Kakko. Remember that name because you will be hearing it a lot. That’s Kakko, not Kakka, or just call him Double K.

EB it would be unfair for me to say that none of the players who played Monday night would be on the Leafs roster opening night. For example goalie Michal Neuvirth was signed to be the team’s backup goalie. Je was actually supposed to be the game’s goalie the other night but he re-injured himself a week ago and it’s a chronic recurring problem. So the team decided to release him yesterday and for now Hutchison will be the team’s backup goalie until they find someone else.

Both Zack Hyman and Travis Dermott win’t be available for a couple of months due to injury which means someone will have to be promoted to the big team until they return from injury. So it’s quite possible that two players who played the other night may start the season with the Leafs. Possibly Ken Agostino or Nik Petan as one of the forwards and Justin Holl as the 7th defenceman who’ll likely spend most of the games watching from the press box.

As for Korshkov he’s had a poor camp except for the last game where he was dominant. The Leafs expect him to spend most of the upcoming season with the Marlies in order for him to work on his tools and the elements currently missing from his game.

Gaby,

Your post implied that Matthews exposed his penis. In fact, he merely bent over, mooned the security guard and squeezed his butt cheeks while doing so. Not really a big deal if you ask me. He was drunk and hockey players are supposed to act this way when drunk. Didn’t you ever see the movie Slapshot? The charge will likely be dismissed or nolled in exchange for community service.

The Toronto Star is reporting she didn’t even see bare ass, so this is a no harm, no foul situation:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.th...-to-do-and-were-not-talking-about-hockey.html

Should be a straight nolle or dismissal if she didn’t see dick or ass.

I agree with EB. It’s a nothing burger if you ask me. He kept his underwear on. He didn’t even touch her. He was a 21-yr old kid who was drunk and didn’t mean any harm. The problem seemed to be more between a couple of his friends and her. She overexaggerated the incident. Maybe she figured he was a kid with a lot of money so she could either make some money out of this or become semi famous. I’m actually more shocked the cops bothered to file charges against him in the first place.

It’s not much different than some bald-headed guy who suddenly pops into the lobby of a hotel (like the Delta Mtl) wearing only his white briefs, right? No harm, no foul.:lol::lol:

If nobody sees you in a hotel lobby in your underwear except Hotel Security and you ask them for assistance in getting back into your hotel room which you locked yourself out of while in an intoxicated stupor, it’s a definite no harm no foul situation! LOL

I had a good chuckle earlier when Mtl sports personality Jean Charles Lajoie said on his show (JiC) that “Auston Matthews pulled a Ned Braeden!” during a discussion with Renaud Lavoie. Ned Braeden is one of the characters (portrayed by Michael Ontkean) in the great movie “Slapshot” who decides to pull a striptease during a hockey game since it seemed to him that hockey had become a circus.

Renaud Lavoie added that he’s been told that John Tavares will be named the official Leafs captain in the coming days. Tavares, who used to be the NY Islanders captain prior to joining the Leafs was my choice all along.
