They are referring to a federal law...? Anyone knows what they are talking about?

The law making it an offense to live off the avails of prostitution may be repealed. In that case, establishments offering some form of sex would no longer be illegal.

Until Harper's religious right decides to ban prostitution altogether. Personally, I hope the Supreme Court leaves everything as it is.

It seems somewhat ironic for a MERB user, and presumably someone who uses the services of sex workers, to take a position against the sex workers who are petitioning the court for greater freedom to practice their profession. It is sort of like a marijuana user opposing the decriminalization of marijuana. Also, in your case, it is doubly ironic because of your handle, freedom

Radical leftists are far more keen on stamping out the sex trade than are church-goers.
This is not at all true. However, it is true to say that radical feminists (but not moderate feminists) are keen on stamping out the sex trade. In fact, here is an article by a feminist complaining that radical leftists support decriminalization or legalization of prostitution: Rabble.ca: Why does the left want prostitution to be 'a job like any other'?.
Here is an extract:
The go-to perspective on prostitution from many progressives in Canada these days seems to be a fairly hard and fast vote for decriminalization or legalization. Even many of our beloved East Vancouver lefties seem convinced that the most progressive position to take is one of "sex as work," arguing that debates around prostitution should prioritize labour rights, allowing women to come out from the underground and"'into the light" as free and autonomous workers.

Wrong answer. The federal "law" the cles spokeswoman talks about is the "no law" making prostitution legal in Canada. When she says "until the federal changes its law", she means : until the federal government makes prostitution illegal. Wishful thinking.

Here is an extract:

The left is as divided on the issue of sex work as the feminists. Leftist ideas, just like feminist ideas, often build up as trends. Not surprisingly in regards of sex work because many debaters simply do not know what they are talking about. In countries like France and Sweden, the left is overwhelmingly anti prostitution. It is much less clear in USA and Canada. The NDP has strong partisans of both sides. It's a catch 22 for them: how can they take a reasonable position on prostitution without alienating part of their electorate that may not be as reasonable?

The term "feminist" is an oxymoron. Most of them are nothing more then a pack of frustrated hounds that are anything but feminine. The true goal is to bust men's chops anyway that they can. I say they should change their name to Bitch Power.

Yes I agree. Some hair clipped wire glasses wearing ugly lumpy bitch that has never been lusted after. The typical feminist goes through life pissed off and jaded because no man has ever wanted to have sex with them. Therefore the feminist is going to take it out on us that enjoy beautiful women for a fee. I just saw an add on Atlanta TV last weekend about having sex with underaged prostitutes. This is the city where news reports claim that there are 1000's of 14 year old escorts working after starting out as dancers and then moving on to escorting. Come on! This is being weaved into the conventional wisdom and anyone who questions this must be a perp.
