A new trend in Montreal

Lately there has been a bunch of assholes related to street gang members attacking restaurants and targeting the customers that are inside. I may be driving the same nail again in the Montreal's coffin but the city is not what it used to be: a clean, happy and safe place. I just want to warn the tourists visiting our city - that used to be lovely - that unfortunately these things happen right now.

Had not been to my favorite little breakfast place in Montreal in some time, L'Avenue at 922 avenue du Mont-Royal Est so i asked a good friend of mine who was in town visiting this past weekend if he was up for one of if not thee best breakfast's he had ever had? So off we went for the famous Steak and Eggs, and once again it was amazing. Had to wait about 45 mins to get a table but so worth the wait. If you have never been there, it is a must, trust me. On a side note, i had a burger and fries there once, it was good but nothing that great, try the steak and eggs :thumb:

I agree, the best Steak and Eggs that I ever had even though it was the first time that I ever tried the Steak and Eggs combo, I just can't imagine it being any better than the one this place serves, will be definitely hitting this place again, the freakish bathroom itself is worth the visit.

Just to clarify...This is the steak & eggs BENEDICT and it's fantastic!! Pricey but worth it when it's this good. The fruit smoothies here also pretty incredible.

Seriously, for $17.... it is a bargain considering the eye candy while waiting in line outside as the hotties walk by on busy avenue du Mont-Royal Est, as well as once you get seated inside, and the entertainment as you watch the funny bike people "cruising" by, dodging potholes is pretty funny also.... not to mention the food! did i mention the FOOD!? (speaking of potholes, holy moly batman, i saw one up the street like 6 inches deep and a foot wide, whats up with that?)

The Steak and eggs special sounds like a bargain, lgna. Maybe, a little high on the cholesterol, but if you do it only once that week, no big deal.

And, yeah, what's up with that pothole? Sounds like a tire buster for a car, and a nasty fall for a bicyclist. I guess you have to watch where you drive or ride.

Best grilled chicken in town is by very, very ,very far , Romados on Rachel between St denis and St Laurent. Guys, If you've never been there it is a MUST ! Wow I'm salivating just thinking about it. Been going there for over a decade and chicken is always the same . AMAZING !!! Price ? Well I think you cant get a fairer price.. For about 20$ tax in , you get a whole chicken, Huge order of fries, Salad and a big bottle of Sumol (Portuguese juice).
Ask them to slather some of their hot sauce on the chicken, its just great. Their dessert are also good but i go for the chicken!
But be aware that if you go at lunchtime or dinner time, those are their peak hours and you will definitely encounter a huge lineup to get your food. BTW, this is not a sit down and get served place. You wait in line, order your food and you might find a seat once you get your food lol
But its really well worth it.
Cheers :D

Right around the corner, there's rotisserie chicken that's just as good as Romados. The big difference is that the roast potatoes at Coco Rico absolutely kill the Romados fries. However, as much as I like the chicken, I love the ribs. Coco Rico is at Napoleon and the Main, just above Schwartz's and across the street from Ripples.
But be aware that if you go at lunchtime or dinner time, those are their peak hours and you will definitely encounter a huge lineup to get your food.
True enough, but you can avoid the line. The line on the right is for walk-ins; the much shorter and faster moving line is for pick-up of call in orders. ALWAYS call ahead for Romados, but even better head around the corner to Coco Rico, where there are never lines. Yes, Romados has the reputation, but to my mind, the food is just as good or better at Coco Rico.

Ive had both and the potatoes at CocoRico are different and better than fries. Not to take anything away from Romados fries as they are as good as fries can get. But the chicken is unbeatable , IMHO at Romados. Hence the lineup there and not at CocoRico ;)

But If I'm on the Main, and don't want to wait the lineups, I definitely go to Coco Rico.

Once a week? As much as i'd like that, if you do anything or the same things too much it does not feel "special" any longer, so 1-4 times a year is just perfect for the steak and eggs. (ok, 6-10 times) lol

I also had the Portugeuse egg tarts when we went there that night

They were real cheap (1.35 CDN ), I think

Very good

Great Italian food at reasonable price. Area is not the greatest located in an
old strip mall but the food is quite impressive.

Antipasto were plentiful - Calamari & Bruschetta excellent
Veal in Porto and Gorgonzola sauce with side of pasta in tomato sauce
was deliciously insane. Colleague had the filet mignon, he couldn't
finish it was so big.

You can bring your own wine, a 4 course meal will cost between 30 to $50
But you'll be rolling out the door - Too much food ! But you can't help but eat
Its that good

Talked to one of the owner/chef, their motto is to only buy the best quality
ingredients to make top quality dishes and it shows/taste.

Highly recommended

SORRY FOR THE TYPO GUYS

Has anyone been to Chuck Hughes newest resto yet, Le Bremner, 361 Saint Paul Street East? .... Was listening to 990am the other day and Chris "Knuckles" Nilan had just gone there and said it was great, but wondering if anyone here had been or heard any feedback before i make the journey there. Also never been to his other resto, Garde Manger, which from seeing his food on Iron Chef (when he beat Bobby Flay) looks awesome and i hear they have a 2-3 week waiting list to get a table on saturday nights, so it must be great. Thanks!

This place sounds amazing Jff, their website has a different address though. La Campagnola
Looks like a typo on justforfun's part. He has the number and the postal code right, but substituted Dorval for Dollard. If you googlemap the postal code, you land on Dollard, just around the corner from Newman. There used to be a tanning salon just around the corner.

I really like Ramados for their portuguese chicken and their desserts for the little egg custards. Also in Old Montreal I like the lobster poutine at Grande Marcher. For sushi I really like Miso near Westmount.

Can anyone recommend a good Indain restaurant? I'm coming back to Montreal next month for another visit and looking for some good places to eat. I've been to Le Taj in the downtown area near the Hotel Omni, and I thought it was very good, particularly compared to the Indian restaurants in my area which are mediocre at best. Any help would be much appreciated.

Here are two, though one is quite far from town.

Bombay Choupati, 5011 Blvd. des Sources (at the corner of Gouin), 421-3130 (Pierrefonds)—"This one may seem a bit out of the way, and the drive along Blvd. des Sources isn’t exactly inspiring, but, make no mistake, Bombay Choupati is a “must.” In fact, we can’t emphasize enough just how much of a gem this little South Indian/Madras-style restaurant is. All the South Indian classics are on offer—such as idli (steamed semolina cakes served in a spicy vegetarian sambar, mixed vegetable tikki (spicy potato patties), and, of course, masala dosa (perhaps the quintessential South Indian dish: a lentil-flour crèpe stuffed with a potato curry and accompanied with sambar and coconut chutney—and they’re all among the very best we’ve had anywhere (London, Vancouver, Toronto, Bangalore, wherever). Also recommended, Bombay-style fruit chat and a devastatingly delicious butter chicken, which may very well have raised the bar on butter chicken in this town to new heights. Fantastic, friendly, completely homemade (right down to the yogurt (!), the fiery green chili sauce, and the tamarind sauce, which is made from fresh tamarinds (!) not tamarind pulp), and cheap, too. Top that." That's cut-and-paste from my favorite Montreal food blog. Let me add that their Fire Dosa might be my favorite dish in Montreal.

Bombay Mahal, 1001 Jean-Talon W., 273-3331 (Park Extension)—"Informal Indian restaurant that serves very good dosas and channa samosas." This one is just a block from the Acadie Metro.
