Spacecadet (does the name fit or what?), you are entitled to your opinion. However, at least 8 persons have contacted me since yesterday to tell me they appreciate & enjoy very much reading my 'restaurant' reviews. It may be nonsense to you, as you put it, but to others, they appreciate the time i put in to write my reviews. They show that you don't to spend a fortune on restaurants whenever you travel to Mtl to enjoy some of the world's finest.

Just like i told others who have objected to my escort reviewing style in the past, you are not forced to read them if you are not happy with my reviews. Here's a suggestion: why don't you put your money where your mouth is and contribute some of your reviews once & for all? Your participation is always welcome by the food-lovers of this fine forum.

I've done some contributions in the Massage threads in the short time i've been here.
The nickname I use might fit as I did work for the Canadian Space Program for a short period of time when I was in university..
I will probably contribute to this thread sometime in the near future. But i stand by what I said earlier.
And btw, quoting the way the `Peruvian or Bolivian`looking server spoke is a tad racist imho...

Guys look, I'm not sure if Doc was poking fun or not, frankly i dont care BECAUSE I LEARNT SOMETHING from one of his posts here today, the Mickey D's one, i had no idea they sold BLT's and now i do. Thanks for the info!..... I dont see where reviewing fast food resto's is wrong, afterall this is a thread for food reviews right? As long as it is not over and over about the same fast food place and i do believe this is the first time for BK and McDonalds. I think Harveys was reviewed before. Now if only i can talk Doc into going to L'Avenue to experience the out of this world Steak and Eggs..... What you say Mr. H? Tomorrow at 2pm? Its on me.

I'm glad i could help, Mister 69. This is the sole reason why i make reviews. To share my own experiences & if i can help others with my reviews, it's all good. As for L'Avenue, i unfortunately cannot check it out since i'm no longer in the fine city we all love.

Cheeburger Cheeburger, 1444 Metcalfe street (Les Cours Mont-Royal)

I've been going by this place for the past year & always wanted to stop by. So this time, i did. And boy, was i ever happy i did!

It's a bit of a retro burger joint, where many different types of burgers are served. Meat, chicken, turkey, etc. They also have a huge selection of items that you can add to your burger.

I decided to make my own burger. I chose the one-third pounder, and added relish, bbq sauce, onions & salad as my free items. I refused to have cheese included (i hate cheese on burgers!) and instead added mustard & ketchup once the burger arrived, approximately 15 minutes or so later. They also give you the option of how you want it cooked: i preferred to have it cooked well-done.

I ordered fires & a diet Pepsi (they didn't have diet Coke) with my order. The total, including tip, was about $20. As i told the waitress (Gabrielle), i will return!!!

To be absolutely honest, i found the burger fantastic. It's one of the best burgers i have ever eaten in Montreal, if not THE best. I found the fries so-so. New York style, with the peels on them. I won't have the fries again.

The waitress, Gabrielle, was very friendly & a pleasure to deal & joke with. I gave her a very good tip.

I strongly recommend!

Le Mechant Boeuf - St Paul street - Old Montreal

Had a friend's brithday party there a couple of weeks ago on a saturday night. Our reservations were at 9pm. Our party was of about 15-18 people. By the time everyone got there it must have been about 9:30pm. The place is really nice on busy St Paul street right next to the Nelligan Hotel. Place is like an upscale pub style supperclub. There was a dj there all night with music ranging from today's hits to music from the 90's. Not too loud so we were able to talk to one another.

So come 9:45, they come and take the cocktail order. I had a drink called `Lu-Lu`if i remember correctly which was a mix of vodka-kahlua and other stuff i cant remember but was very tasty. My date had a sangria which was one of the best I've tasted. 9:55, they come take our food order. I order the prime rib and my date orders the seafood platter. None of us order any appetizers. At around 10:30 the waiters come once more to ask if we want more drinks, which we do. 11pm, they bring out the appetizers that some people in our party ordered. No main course yet. 11:20 is when the main course was brought out. Almost an hour and a half after we placed our order.
We were all starving !

My dish: prime rib (medium-rare) . Came served on a butcher block with steamed veggies. Let me tell you that is was well worth the wait ! The best prime rib i've had in Montreal. Grilled perfectly to my liking, tender and oh sooo tasty. My date's seafood platter had shrimp, calamari, oysters and other stuff I can't remeber cause I dont eat seafood. She was very pleased with her order and being a seafood connaisseur, she said it was some of the freshest shes had in Canada (she's from Peru).
The rest of our party all had praises for the food they had ordered.
We stuck around and had a few more drinks until about 1am. The bill arrived and it came out to $165 for the both of us. The seafood was 45$ , prime rib 41$ and the drinks were around 12$-14$ each. I guess thats what you should expect paying in Old Montreal and The place was nice, music was enjoyable.

I would repeat but not with a large party as it takes too long to get your order.

Very good review, spacecadet! Well done, well written! :thumb:

If i may offer a tiny bit of constructive criticism, it's in the area of phrasing. You should use more paragraphs in order to make your review more readable.

However, it's all good, and i enjoyed reading it.

McDONALD'S, Place Montreal Trust food court

One recent morning as i headed downtown, i wanted to eat something light for breakfast. I figured i'd stop by the Tim Horton's nearby at the Scotiabank movie theatre (a.k.a. Paramount)...

Thank you Doc Holliday for this very informative review. I passed by the Place Montreal Trust McDonald so many times, and this place was so tempting. On the other hand I have already had very bad experiences with fancy looking junk food courts and I did not want this to happen to me again. Though, and thanks to your review I will now confidently head there, shell out those precious 7 bucks out of my pocket and order that greasy burger.

Sarcasm, apart, I don't know what is exactly your hidden agenda when it comes to MERB, but you are definitely trashing this thread by posting such fictional reviews. You are shooting yourself in the foot yet again!!!

Tried a new restaurant that opened two weeks ago. Pub Resto Serge Henri which opened up at the Best Western Europa on Drummond off of St. Catherine.

The chef/owner formerly worked at the Ritz Carlton. The are hoping to get their liquor license by Thursday.

Went for dinner last night. My friend and I each had one of the nightly specials.

I had the chicken parmasean. The dinner included minestrone soup which was served very hot and tasty. The chicken parmesean included to half breast and a side of pasta. I also had a small caeser salad. My friend had asian style noodles with shrimp and fresh vegetables as well as the minestrone soup. Everything was very good and I think the final bill was less than $55.

If you are staying at the Europa it is a no-brainer to eat at this restaurant. If you are in the are, I would also recommend trying it out.

Yea, the Keg has awesome streaks for a chain resto. Have not been there in a few years so it is nice to see they are still cooking up great steaks.

You're quite welcome. When every penny counts, it's always a positive thing to exchange valuable information in order to maximize every single penny we have. The more we're able to save, the more we can spend on hobbying, n'est-ce pas?

But i didn't eat the burger (my favorite at McDo is the quarter-pounder WITHOUT cheese) when i ate at McDonald's. I had the BLT bagel. I actually enjoy a BLT bagel once in a while when not in Mtl if i happen to be up in the morning. But it was a first while in Montreal. I doubt it'll be my last. ;)

Well actually I prefer the mcdonalds and harveys reviews as thats what restaurants I enjoy going too, perhaps I'm not as chic or high class as other members, but thats what I like, and every restaurant is different, atmosphere, service wise and food wise. So thanks Doc, keep them coming.

I am certainly not high class i am just your regular john and quite often i am looking for a value when i eat and there can be a difference in the service, the quality and how clean fast food restaurants are so Doc do us value conscious consumers a favor and keep reviewing these fast food restaurants. Don't let anyone tell you that you are doing a disservice. There are people like me who are value shoppers who read this board and value your contributions to this thread. Nuff said.

I appreciate the positive feedback for my efforts. My goal is to help each hobbyist maximize his hard-earned dollars. Just the other day, someone asked me how i regularly manage to see 1-2 girls a day whenever i travel to Mtl. On that same day, i had seen 3 girls already. Of course, one of these encounters was a duo.

How i do it? By budgeting my trip(s). I book my rooms via Priceline, i try to look for hotels that offer free internet, and i spend the least time possible in restaurants. Yes, this means that i regularly use so-called fastfood joints in order to get my body going. From my reviews, i hope to further educate the concerned hobbyist in the fact you can actually eat fairly well in those budget-conscious locations i've recently reviewed. It's not always junk food when you're careful about what you eat. There is usually a fairly good variety of salads to chose from, vegetables, and you can never go wrong with chicken, as long as it's not fried (sorry Red Sox fans).

Locations i've reviewed mostly don't offer alcoholic beverages, so there you go....your healthier than if you would have got sloshed at a high-end restaurant.

Finally, on my last day in the fair city of Montreal, i ordered my favorite chicken wings from Buffalo Bills. I wasn't going to bother making a review, but if there's a demand for it, i will consider it.

p.s. Any Wendy's Restaurants in Montreal? So far, i've been unsuccessful in finding any.

Doc, if you're traveling on a low budget you might try Father Emmett Johns' van: the soup is really exquisite! It costs only 3 bucks!!!!!

Even better is Acceuil Bonneau: you have the privilege of eating while seated. Arrive early because the space available is limited :D

For those eager to discover the real French Canadian cuisine there is always La Binerie Mont-Royal...a classic!
