On my recent trip I ate two dinners and two breakfasts in Montreal. Both dinners I ordered steak. The first night I had a flank steak at iburger and the second night I had a top sirloin steak at the Keg. I liked the top sirloin at the Keg better, but it was also quite a bit more expensive, $29 vs. $20 for the flank at iburger.

The two breakfasts were at Eggspectation and the Omni hotel buffet. At Eggspectation I got the mix and match omelet which had bacon, sausage and Swiss cheese. It was a really good omelet except the sausage they are using tastes a bit different from what I am used to back home.

Some kind of cheese) and the bacon is good. Only issue is the lox is not super high quality and the muffins are sugary. However the coffee is excellent. As good as any coffee around

"Chops": I always wondered about this place. With the number of times it got firebombed/cocktail molotoved, I thought this restaurant was no more than a front for some kind of Jewish mob. The last time I heard they threw a cocktail Molotov while patrons were still inside! Cavali sounds fishy... Chops souns fishier.

I have not heard of Chops previously, but their own web page claims that they are an Asian Fusion restaurant specializing in steak and sushi, serving kosher fish and meats and servicing the Jewish community in Montreal:

I was not even aware that there is now such a cuisine out there, namely kosher Asian fusion. Sounds pretty interesting although I am not sure if it is worth the risk of getting molotov cocktailed to eat there.

The fire bombs occurred during the night when the restaurant was closed. And concerns are vastly overblown.
In any event, we have been there for office Xmas parties, dining out with clients and all without a hitch.
It's all about the steaks and right now they are perhaps the best in Mtl...and don't worry they will not serve their steaks "charred" or flavored with vodka........................................

The firebomb definitely happened once with patrons inside. That is cause for concern. I can't tell you how many times they got firebombed but it happened almost as of day one. I remember the opening had to be delayed because of a Molotov cocktail incident.

I definitely would never set foot in that place. Just my hunch, if you don't have much ethics in life, I don't see how much ethics you will have in business. Even more so, if you deal with food preparation.

I think this is the best link of them all (sorry I'm adding as I discover things). Explains everything. Definitely the Jewish mob. Seems all likely the Sephardic-Moroccan Jewish connection. Can someone tell me what happened to Mikasa on Peel? It seems to have closed or left as a result of the construction going on at the section of Peel just south of Sherbrooke. Are they at a new location?

I wanted to eat some sushi at Mikasa Friday night but ended up settling for Takara, which is at the top of the Cours Mont Royal shopping Plaza on Metcalfe. You don't even know this place exists unless you see the sign on Metcalfe which directs you to take a giant escalator that goes right to the restaurant's door. I thought Takara's sushi was pretty solid, but some of the other dishes were not as stellar as Mikasa.

i was wondering if some of you went to and dont laugh for the name loll..i did...MA POULE MOUILLÉE....corner of boyer and rachel....i have too say it is amazing...chicken portugese....omg....and the price are even cooler....and you have choice of dessert also that look awesomee......if somebody know something like that anywere hummmm telll me.....just this weekend i went 3 tiimes lollllllllll...hope you like it....i DID..

Rarely have I had BBQ this good and their homemade bbq sauce is one of the best I have ever had. Tried the Pulled Pork Poutine the first day and was pretty darn good. The only thing is I dont think they use the best quality cheese curds but overall they were still good, just not fantastic. The pulled pork was done to perfection with the right amount of flavor and as lean as can be. $14 for the meal size poutine and could not finish it all. I rarely eat poutine but the reviews sounded great and was glad I gave it a try.

A week later got the craving for Le Bocoun pulled pork again so went with the pulled pork sandwich this time. Heavenly is the perfect word for this amazing treat. Again, the pulled pork was just right in taste and combined with the bun they use and a bit of slaw in the middle, it was fantastico! Their BBQ sauce is just simply amazing, with a sweet/spicy combo made to perfection. Chose slaw and "cheesy corn" for the sides. The slaw was ok as far as slaw's go and the corn was really good. For the sandwich and 2 sides it was $15 and super filling. A friend had the smoked tomato soup and I had a spoonful and it was sinfully good as well.

Overall I would give Le Bocoun four and a half stars out of five, so far. (still need to try the bbq chicken and ribs someday) Not sure if they sell their homemade BBQ sauce by the bottle but next time I will buy one or FIVE if they do. (it is THAT good)

I think you will like this place. Funny tho, it does not have a overwhelming smell of smoked bbq when you walk in. Make sure to bring your appetite. It is not cheap but the portions are pretty good. The thing to do is go with someone and order the "Pit Boss" for $45. Every review I read says it is more than enough food for 2 people and one review said "it fed four people quite well" (depending how hungry of course)

If you are in town for GG4 or sooner, I am down to go again and if for nothing else than to just get a liter of their homemade bbq sauce lol.

What is "burnt ends" poutine?

Are "braised greens" and southern-style collard greens the same thing? I had southern style collard green today at Whole Foods Market and it was the bomb. Stewed with bacon and a pepper sauce.

It's the more well-done end of the brisket added to poutine

Like when someone asks for prime rib well-done

Your answer to greens is yes

At least you didn't have okra ( slimy and gross )

By the ways I wanted to thank all of you guys for keeping this thread going. Since I started the thread on September 21, 2004, after deleting an older thread, there have been 1,368 replies and 88,950 viewings. The question is, should I start a new thread since a lot of the info in this thread is dated and deals in some cases with restaurants that have closed, and in other cases with reviews that are very dated? We all know that restaurants sometimes change management and can go downhill very fast and we have seen it happen.

Let me know what you think.

Website is strange, it took me a minute or two to figure out that you have to click on the menu in the photo, which is on the wall near the door, to get the actual menu up.

Did you try the smoked tomato soup? And what is pulled pork poutine? Do they dump pulled pork over fries instead of that horrible smelling cheese curd sauce?
