Hello All,I just tried to book euphoria today and realized I have no sms in Canada because I am from the US and so is my cellular service. I'm only here for one more day. Is there any way I can book via wifi?

Call them instead. If you don't want to do that, then you can book with XO through other ways than texting

Try sending Euphoria a private message and explain the situation, only them can let you know what will work. But as a general "rule" if you use your hotel phone, and they can confirm its real by calling you back, they would probably let you book without any problem. Euphoria and pretty much all agencies accept calls.

Don't use a text app, as they refuse this.

Would a we chat outcall work as well? I'm in a hostel so I'm not sure using their phone would be very discreet.

Montreal agencies do not use Wechat or any similar app. You should probably try contacting them via MERB pm. Next time you should stay in a hotel.

Most US phones work in Canada. You may pay a roaming fee, but not that significant. You can also get a local prepaid SIM.

I have AT&T and before I was upgraded for free to the Canada plan, I texted when I was in Canada with my service. I just got charged for the texts at like .25 per. This dude can't text because he left his cellphone in Airplane mode, or else he is just wrong. Any American cellphone automatically goes into roamer mode when you cross the border no matter what service you have. You can see it happen on your phone as you cross the border. in my case I see the name Rogers appear on the phone.

It's really simple: cellular service providers do not make any money if they stop service. They keep service going, the phone goes into roamer mode, you get a charge for it. So as of right now I am calling a Tony on the OP. Nice try Tony. I am surprised nobody else figured this out- there is no such thing as service stopping for an American when he crosses the border, for the simple reason that it makes no sense for the cell provider to not make any money. They keep service going, the phone will roam automatically, and you get charged unless phone is on airplane mode.

Tony strikes again!

I had telus with one bar for a little bit after crossing the border but no service once I hit Montreal, my roaming is on. I don't have any reason to really lie about this, also wechat like Skype has a paid minutes service so I could probably give that a go.

Who is your carrier? That really makes no sense to me. Cellular service companies make money by charging for roaming service and if you saw Telus you will get a roamer charge on your next bill unless you turned your data off. You should be on the phone with your carrier and telling them "WTF! I have no roaming service and are you going to be charging me for it?" Just call them up. There is possibly an explanation for it, but what you have posted makes no sense to me unless it's just really bad roaming service. Which it might be. But even if it's bad, you will be charged for it.

I had a similar situation to the OP when I went to Montreal for the first time 2 years ago. In the US, I use my company cell phone for business and personal calls, so I did not want to bring it across the boarder with me as the company monitors calls and text. I bought a prepaid phone is the US (Tracfone) that made calls to Canada and pre-booked a couple of appointments. Once I got into Canada, the phone did not work. The pre-paid phone was not unlocked so I couldn't use a local sim card with it.

I was able to make calls via wi-fi, but apparently no number showed up on their caller id and I was sent to voicemail with a message that said they do not accept calls from blocked numbers. Other agencies that I contacted stated to me that they do not make appointment without a phone number.

I was finally able to make an appointment by calling from a pay phone. So my first time in MTL did not go as well as planned. The next time that I went, I got an AT&T pre-paid phone that worked without any issue. Good luck.

I guess I should prepare for next time. This was an unplanned Labor Day weekend trip that I booked literally a week before going. Which is why I stayed at the hostel because the hotel prices were thru the roof. I guess I could try a pay phone but from the providers point of view wouldn't that be sketchy? Also where is there a pay phone in Montreal? I haven't really seen any.

Did you try to contact the agency via private message here? I book many indpendant girl via pm so my guess is it should work for agency as well. Other or agency themselves could confirm.

Cheers,

Pay phones can be found in a number of metro/bus stations and malls. They can also be found on the streets outside of metro stations and bus stops as well. I remember some being near McGill University. PM is an option too, but keep in mind that I might take a while to get back to you since they be getting a number of phone calls and text.

Eagerbeaver, I think your right when it comes to the major US carriers like AT&T, Sprint, Verizon... but but not when it comes to smaller carriers. I had a cousin that switched from Verizon to Verizon pre-paid and she was told that she would not have the same coverage areas as she normally would with Verizon. And it was true! The prepaid service was sub par to the normal Verizon service: dropped call, no signal, etc.

LOL, its funny that your telling him to call his provider when he has NO service, lol!!!

Dudeo- In settings make sure airplane mode is off and on cellular make sure data and roaming are both turned on. On an iPhone it's under "Cellular Data Options". Both that and "Cellular Data" should be turned on. That would explain the "no service" message if they are off.
